Massive jam after car catches fire on CTE
SINGAPORE: A car caught fire on the Central Expressway (CTE) towards the Seletar Expressway at around 4.15pm on Wednesday (Feb 17), causing a massive traffic jam.
Channel NewsAsia understands the incident near the Jalan Bahagia exit involved a Toyota Estima, and the inferno caused a tailback of about 5km on the expressway.
An eyewitness, Mr Seet, said the fire was coming out of the bonnet and bottom of the car, which was located along the road shoulder.
Ms Adeline Ng, who shared a video of the incident, said her partner heard a car horn sounding from the direction of the expressway for about 15 minutes, and then a boom.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted to the fire at about 4.20pm, and dispatched two fire engines and two fire bikes to the scene.
The flames were extinguished using two compressed air foam backpacks and two waterjets, and there were no injuries reported, the authorities added.
