SINGAPORE: The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has taken over the marine fighting and rescue functions from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
In a joint statement, SCDF said it has set up the Civil Defence Marine Command (CDMC) to do so.
SCDF said it will build up its capabilities and capacity to enhance response to marine fire and rescue incidents gradually.
It
added that it has been working closely with MPA on the transfer of
manpower and assets, including training relevant SCDF personnel in
marine fire-fighting and rescue skills.
SCDF and MPA said the
transfer of the marine fire fighting function will pool Singapore's
resources within one agency, enhancing the level and type of service
rendered.
They added that they have informed the shipping, harbour craft and pleasure craft communities in Singapore.
They also assure the public that the services provided in the Port of Singapore remains unaffected.
CDMC is operating from the West Coast Marine Fire Station located at West Coast Pier.
In
addition, SCDF said CDMC will also be operating from an interim base at
Pulau Brani until the permanent base and headquarters are built there.

Not quite a good move... Under 1 Agency might sounds good, but it means expertise and skill spread thin...
SCDF has always been short staffed...
short staff got NS men no problem
was wondering if SCDF gonna spend big bucks for appliances, maybe firefighting ships ?
