The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said people caught misusing
fire safety provisions such as fire extinguishers will be referred to
the Police.
This was in response to STOMPer Anon's post about secondary school students playing with fire extinguishers on the train and in their school.
An SCDF spokesperson said:
"SCDF wishes to remind the public that misuse of fire safety provisions may affect the early mitigation of fires.
"Fire
safety provisions such as fire extinguishers are placed in premises, to
allow a person trained in the use of fire extinguishers to put out an
incipient fire and prevent it from spreading further, even before
responders arrive. This will minimise the damage to property and risk to
lives.
"If a criminal intention is suspected, the SCDF will
refer the person to the Police, and action may be taken depending on the
nature of offence."
