A crane collapsed at a construction site along Fort Road, leaving one dead and two injured.
Said an SCDF spokesperson:
"At
4pm, SCDF was informed that a crane had collapsed at a construction
site along Fort Road. SCDF resources were immediately dispatched and
arrived within 5 minutes.
"1 Fire Engine, 1 Red Rhino, 3 Ambulances, 1 Support vehicle, Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team were dispatched to the scene.
"Upon
arrival, SCDF officers found that a crane, about 21 meters in height
had collapsed onto a nearby 7-storey building that is under

underneath the boom of the crane.
SCDF rescuers pulled 2
casualties to safety from the rooftop of the building. SCDF paramedics
were also on the rooftop to assess the condition of the casualties.
"The
casualties were evacuated from the building using the on-site crane and
crane bucket. They were conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital in two
ambulances.
"Rescuers used rescue equipment to extricate the
third casualty from under the boom of the crane. He was pronounced dead
by SCDF paramedics at scene at 1810hrs.
"Two male casualties were
conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The first casualty sustained a
suspected spinal injury and the second casualty sustained a fracture on

"The third male casualty that was trapped under the boom of the crane was pronounced dead at the scene."
actually regarding abt cranes, I have a question...
U know those HUGE crane they build tall buildings with...? How do they construct them? if lets say u built from the bottom then to the top, then the top of the crane also beri heavy to lift to the top...

those cranes can be built while lying on the ground leh. + I think most of them extend a certain length which means you don't need to build one super long lever, but multiple shorter ones and fit them together.

MOM is regulating approved crane erectors for the crane companies...
Most of the crane operators I know are not crane erectors... even a simple boom extension requires approved crane erectors in Singapore....
from the picture. dun look like a tower crane
could b a crawler crane with jib
Ane... I ask u ah, the vid u showed for the erection of crane... Do they do it the same way for those HUGE tall crane for sky scrappers? becoz I'm quite sure the crane vehicle which help to lift parts isn't as high...

See this to clarify... From what I know, for crawler crane set up, the crawler crane itself must be able to lift its own boom(one boom at a time) from ground level. FYI, a crawler crane is a crane on crawler(metal tracks).
A tower crane can be mobile(on metal tracks), but its main boom must be perpendicular... I think thats how they categorizes....

i deal with it on daily basis

I believe you missed the part in the video where the tower crane increases its height by jacking itself up to add boom piece, one at a time. The idea is simple, all the cranage will be set up around ground level, wire ropes, the desired counter weights. With self jacking capabilities, height is no matter(does not affect lifting capabilities)... except the limitation of the boom holding the total weight of itself + max load.

I saw tat portion... so that process can be repeated to get the desired height...
I presume taking down the crane is the reverse procedure?

All parameters were considered before erection... height, load etc...
I presumed the same... but I was wrong... :p

Ice, the top one is crawler crane and the bottom one is tower crane?
what kind of cranes are these?

That can only mean... your eyes are having problem with your computer screen or your are not properly dealing with your daily basis or you cannot stand correction or you are trolling me... hope you are not the so called approved erectors...
The 1st video shown 1) No crawler tracks 2) Triangular boom 3) Perpendicular mast.
Correct me if I'm wrong...
