The Commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Peter Lim, has been suspended from his duties and the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) chief, Ng Boon Gay, has been questioned by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), according to Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao.
In a front page story on Tuesday, the paper quoting reliable sources, said that Mr Lim had been suspended for nearly a month and six other SCDF officials, including two of senior rank, are also under investigation. The paper quoted sources as saying the case is 'linked to money and women'. Mr Lim had his use of the official SCDF car taken away from him, said the report. Mr Ng was said to have been called in for questioning by the CPIB but no further details were given on when exactly he did so.
Mr Lim, 51, became the SCDF Commissioner in May 2009, moving up from the rank of Deputy Commissioner. He has been in the SCDF for 24 years. He was an engineering service officer, rising through the ranks to become deputy commissioner in June 2005.
Mr Ng Boon Gay, 45, has been in the Police Force for 20 years. A local government merit scholar, he was previously in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) before taking over at the CNB in January last year. In his term as the CID director, he oversaw the setting-up of the Casino Investigation Branch to deal with casino-related crime amongst other responsibilites.

Times are bad.
It is time for the various ministries to review their salary package so that they do not seek revenue from other avenues.
The reason for this misunderstanding is that the bonus is not HUGE enough so they have to do it to combat the inflation in Singapore eg $10 carrot cake.
Therefore, please be understanding about what these two talents have erred as they have spent their whole career contributing and sacrificing their life to the country.
Every one is not a saint so are talents.
They are bound to be misled in some stage of life.
So, on the basis of their SACRIFICE, please let them off and return them to their old position.
lets not jump to conclusions and see what the report says
one ought to be careful in dealings with contractors....once fall out, "funny" things may happen....
Who is this man who will now be commissioner following the unfortunate scandal that is now unravelling within SCDF? Information from MHA, and SCDF:
Assistant Commissioner (AC) Eric Yap Wee Teck (伟德), aged 43, joined the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in 1993. He graduated in 1993 from the University of Ulster, United Kingdom. He was awarded a Masters of Arts in Management & Organisation Communication from Emerson College, USA on a Fulbright Scholarship in 2001.
His previous postings include:
~OC, Changi Fire Station;
~Commander, 1st CD Division;
~Director, Operations Department, SCDF;
~Senior Director, Homefront Security Division, MHA HQ;
and most recently, Senior Director, Emergency Services, SCDF
He has acted as commissioner for numerous times since taking on his latest appointment as SD(ES). If there's anything surprising about his appointment, it would be the timing and the circumstances behind which he rose to this position.
What changes would you expect under him?

don't be too quick to judge. it's the command element and a receptive mind that counts more than academic qualifications. not too long ago, one commissioner of SCDF led it for 17 years with just an O level cert ;)
thats true....but it depends on the complexity of the job and changing needs of times too...
if an engineering trained person is lax ...things would still go wrong....
the news has affected the integrity of the organization in some ways...SCDF is really the forefront fire and emergencies fighter....
sad to hear such news....
The funny thing is how SCDF can lead to "money and women" investigations... maybe while he helping to help women fight their fire? and then taking money from them?

The public should await the outcome of investigations before passing judgment on the case involving two senior Home Team officers, said MPs on Tuesday.
Mr Hri Kumar Nair, chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for Law and Home Affairs, said: 'The authorities are doing what they are expected to do. Let's not jump to conclusions and start making judgments before the authorities have finished investigations.'
He was reacting to news that the chiefs of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) have been replaced and are being investigated. His views were echoed by fellow GPC member Alvin Yeo, who said: 'It is good to know that our authorities are vigilant and will follow up on every lead.'
Without referring to specific cases, he added that incidents of improper conduct over time show that despite Singapore's good track record on preventing corruption in the public sector, the authorities cannot let their guard down.
