SINGAPORE: The civil defence force has urged Singaporeans to exercise greater caution to minimise fire hazards and prevent fires during the Lunar New Year period.
For those who are cooking or baking festive goodies, they should never leave cooking unattended.
Gas and cooking appliances should be turned off when they are not in use.
Those who use charcoal should douse it with water when cooking is done.
SCDF said smouldering charcoal and embers should not be thrown into rubbish chutes/bins as they could lead to rubbish fires.
On sparklers, SCDF said users should light one sparkler at a time and they should not throw it at combustible materials.
For
commercial building owners, they should ensure that escape passageways
are free of obstruction and fire exit doors are unlocked for use during
emergencies.
