IN CASE of an emergency, dial 995 - or send an SMS or MMS from August onwards.
The new service, announced by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) on Friday, is part of its drive to boost its responsiveness and operational capabilities by leveraging on technology.
Speaking at its annual work-plan seminar held at ITE College East, Minister of State for Home Affairs and Education Masagos Zulkifli said he was pleased that the SCDF was exploring new technologies to meet specific needs in the community.
'The Advanced C3 emergency system will enable people with speech and hearing difficulties to contact SCDF directly for assistance,' he said of the new SMS and MMS options.
The number to send the messages to is being finalised.
Presenting the plans for the coming year, SCDF Commissioner Peter Lim said the system also allows for streaming of videos from the incident site and updating of traffic conditions to allow emergency vehicles to arrive in the shortest time possible.
