A PARAMEDIC was tending to Katharavello Robert, 54, at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital when the patient raised his left leg and kicked the Civil Defence officer in the face at 4.40am on May 4, 2009.
The year before, Katharavello had slashed the cheek of McDonald's deliveryman Muhammad Hafiz Haron with a cutter.
Yesterday, the unemployed man pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to nine months in jail. The district court also ordered him to pay $1,000 in compensation to the deliveryman.
On both occasions, Katharavello was reeking of alcohol. Investigations also revealed that he was in the McDonald's outlet in Toa Payoh Central at 12.30am on June 14, 2008, when he started taunting Muhammad Hafiz, 24, for no apparent reason.
Half an hour later, as Muhammad Hafiz was walking to his motorcycle to make a delivery, Katharavello suddenly appeared and slashed him with a 8.5cm-long cutter.
In the other incident, police called for an ambulance as Katharavello was drunk in Little India. His lawyer John Abraham told the court that his client had fractured his leg from a collision with the police car and was in pain.
