Hello everyone. I am currently still a student. Haven't enlist into NS yet. Before i ask my question, here are some of my info.
16 This year [2010]
Not yet NS
Waiting for N level result
Loves SCDF, Dislikes BMT
Okay here is my question, it may sound stupid but i duno who to ask already.
Is it possible for me to enlist myself into SCDF BEFORE the government enlist me into the Army [SAF] because i really like to fight fires and save lives. Hence i dun want to waste time in SAF's BMT. i rather straight away go for the BRT[Basic Rescue Training] in SCDF. i just dun want go BMT. is it possible? i am in a UG called NCDCC[Extension of SCDF, mcm the son like that] i am a WO and UDI in NCDCC[I know it may sound silly] BUT would it aid in showing my sincerity in joining SCDF straight away? I met all of the entry requirements except 50kg [i am 40+ now], still waiting for result. What can i enlist myself into SCDF as? [i want to be ERS or something like that, not paramedic pls] like indepth guide of wad to do to get into SCDF BEFORE i get enlisted in ARMY. Please thanks!
I think it is possible if u sign on as a regular with the scdf. Meaning, u sign professional contract with them and once u are needed for NS, u can go direct to scdf.
But i think the bond require u to complete certain level of qualification like ITE or polytechnic. And u join scdf as graduates of the respective schools.
Wow! I appreciate your speedy response. Btw sorry i am still super fresh, what do you mean by a regular? Job scope?

Regular in NS terms means signing a contract to serve for a few years with the scdf. It is like working in a sense, drawing a monthly salary.
Regular = people who sign contract and serve the scdf, army, navy etc and typcally a minimum 5 year contract if i am right.
NSF = people who only serve 2 years NS and thats it.
Its ok not to understand all the terms at your age, when i was your age, i know nothing about NS too. This forum got some useful threads and u should search for them and find out more.
But as a regular, do i get to work in a firestation to get dispatched for calls, rescue ppl and fight fires etc? =) I love that job.
i have no idea. but u can count on receiving the same basic training like everyone else. I think the job specification is dependant on the postings.
U better go search for more info and dun listen to me

why dont you just call scdf and ask them for a career brochure?
you might wish to browse through the SCDF website too..
