SINGAPORE: The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has clarified that it has not authorised any company to sell fire extinguishers or conduct fire safety talks.
It made the statement following complaints from the public that some companies were using SCDF's name.
SCDF understands that the company personnel would show the SCDF
Emergency Handbook to give the impression that they were representing
the SCDF.
They would then use aggressive sales tactics to push their products or
force people to sign up for fire insurance or attend talks and training
seminars.
The most recent cases were reported in August.
SCDF said all uniformed or regular staff of SCDF would display their warrant card while on duty, as a standard procedure.
It added that its fire safety and community emergency preparedness
programmes (CEPP) are provided free of charge at all division
headquarters.
Members of public can visit SCDF's website for more details.
