Nine male workers were injured when a lorry they were in crashed into a
tree at the junction of Jurong Port Road and Jalan Buroh early this
morning.
The accident happened at about 6.35am.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force, SCDF, said that the lorry had
skidded.
All nine injured were sent to the National University Hospital.
SCDF said two of them had cuts on their foreheads while the rest
suffered bruises and abrasions.
John Rajoo Sandaran, the driver of the lorry, recounts what happened.
"Raining already, I wanted to turn left, so I changed into
fourth gear, once I turned, my vehicle started skidding. When I tried to
avoid the skid, the lorry get more skid. After the accident, I came
down, my slipper also slippery. I looked at roadside - very slippery.
And then I found on the left hand side all the dirt water, all the oil
floating on the water.
The workers were from Siling Engineering Transportation Company.
The boss of the company, Simon Subra, claims the lorry was not
overcrowded at the time of the incident.
He said the workers are from Myanmar and that this is the first time the
company has had such an incident.
Over the last three years, there's been about 70 lorry accidents
involving casualties every year.
