A large vegetation fire broke out in an open field
along Tampines Street 72 at 5.34pm today.
It took some 30 fire fighters nearly four hours to put out the blaze.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force says the fire has
been brought under control and no one was injured from the fire.
It adds that the present dry spell experienced in
Singapore has seen outbreaks of grass, lallang and vegetation fires.
In the first two months of the year, SCDF responded
to 147 cases of such fires.
However, the figures remain relatively low as
compared to the peak period last year.
The same period last year saw 341 cases of such
fires.
SCDF adds that should current dry and hot conditions
continue, occurences of such fires may increase.
It's appealing to the public to help minimise such
fire occurences by not throwing lit cigarette butts and matches onto
grass patches or fields.
Other preventive measures include not disposing
rubbish in fields as such items act as fuel.
It also advises home owners with grass compounds to
keep grass trimmed and watered.

Luckily for me, now in Penang hahah~
most of them are caused by irresponsible disposal of cigarette butts..

Yah that area got a lot of foreign workers living in dorms and there is a NEWater planned construction site too, might have been workers smoking in the bushes...
Today, another three bush fires in Tampines throughout the day, the worst one was near the Tampines Service Road where vegetation over an area of about three football fields was razed.
It took 50 firefighters more than three hours to bring the flames under control. Twenty officers stayed overnight to ensure that all the embers were fully put out.
I saw 04 Pump Ladders, Fire Bikes, 02 Red Rhinos & 02 PDV along Tampines Rd @2205hrs. Most prob staying overnite to ensure fire does not start again.
