Chinatown LNY organisers works with SCDF to ensure safe festive period
SINGAPORE : Organisers of the Chinatown Lunar New Year celebration are working with the Singapore Civil Defence Force to ensure an accident-free festive period.
Last year, some six percent of the stalls at the market were issued warning letters for not meeting fire safety standards.
To prevent a repeat of the situation, both groups teamed up to inspect the stalls at this year's bazaar.
They also advised stallholders on the importance of fire safety.
But some stallholders said complying with the regulations will affect their business.
One stallholder said: "Flowers need to be displayed prominently so
customers will be attracted to buy them. So sometimes we have to
display them a little further out. But now I have no choice, so my
flowers do not look so good."
