They are the Heavy Rescue Tender (HRT), and the HazMat Mitigation Vehicle (HMV). The new life-saving vehicles were launched at a specially organised pre-event operational display.
On September 11, Friday, audiences including the media were treated to an exciting display. SCDF's HazMat specialist demonstrated how the vehicle responded to hazmat incident. The Civil Defence's DART team also deployed the Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) and the Amphibious Search and Rescue Vehicle (AV) for water rescue incident.
Here's some general information of the two new vehicles launched:
The Heavy Rescue Tender:
The Heavy Rescue Tender (HRT) is equipped to respond to search and rescue incidents that occur both on land and in the water. The vehicle is fitted with a crane and carries heavy rescue equipment suitable for undertaking rescue operation in collapsed buildings or structures. The vehicle is also mounted with an inflatable boat and diving equipment for underwater search and rescue operations. The HRT can also be configured to carry the aerial fire fighting bucket to support aerial fire fighting operations.
The vehicle was first introduced in 1997 and can carry up to 8 people. It can travel up to 90km/h.
The HazMat Mitigation Vehicle:
The HazMat Mitigation Vehicle (HMV) is the latest vehicle in SCDF’s HazMat fleet designed to respond and mitigate incidents involving hazardous materials. It is contains detection and mitigation equipment to enable HazMat Specialists to perform speedy rescue and evacuation, rapid hazard detection and effective mitigation. The HazMat Utility Buggy (HUB) adopts a vehicle-in-vehicle concept. The buggy allows HazMat Specialists and equipment to enter the danger zone swiftly and mitigate the release of hazardous materials. It is also used to conduct evacuation and transport any injured persons out of the danger zone.
The
HazMat Mitigation Vehicle was launched on August 24, 2009. It has a
variety of detection equipment for Toxic Industrial Chemicals, Chemical
Warfare Agents and Radioactive Materials. The mitigation equipment
covers sealing, transfer, absorption and containment operations.
