SCDF to have new commissioner
Commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force, James Tan, will retire on May the 20th, after 42 years of service with SAF and SCDF.
Deputy Commissioner Peter Benedict Lim Sin Pang, will take over from him.
A Home Affairs Ministry statement said under Commissioner Tan’s leadership, SCDF has transformed itself into one of the world's leading emergency response organisations.
Commissioner Tan was also the driving force in introducing an “innovation culture” to the SCDF.
Notable examples include the Hazardous Materials Transport Vehicle Tracking and Immobiliser Systems, which prevents vehicles transporting hazardous materials from being used as Weapons of Mass Destruction.

MHA's official press statement about James Tan's retirement.
From the papers, I've also learnt for the first time that his last appointment in the SAF was commander of OCS...

Outgoing Commissioner James Tan outlines challenges for SCDF
SINGAPORE: The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will have to
solve its manpower shortage to handle the wide range of tasks expected
of it as the country's population rises.
This is one challenge the SCDF will have to face, according to its
outgoing Commissioner James Tan, who is retiring from the uniformed
services after 42 years.
Speaking at the Change of Command Parade on Tuesday, Commissioner Tan
said that while increasing manpower is one way of solving the problem,
SCDF should also harness technology to multiply officers' effectiveness
in taking on additional roles.
Other challenges he spelt out were the continued threat from terrorism and fulfilling core services to the public.
In fighting terrorism, Commissioner Tan said SCDF must always stay one
step ahead. And he reminded officers to continue excelling in core
roles, such as fire fighting and emergency ambulance services, to meet
the public's high expectations.
Commissioner Tan, who has been at the helm for 17 years, is succeeded by deputy commissioner Peter Lim Sin Pang.
