SCDF: Only 3 fire-related incidents in last 4 years
The SCDF says, in the last four years, there've only been about three fire-related incidents in pubs, bars, music lounges and similar establishments.
These were mostly 'minor fires' involving neon light, waste paper, electrical wiring and circuit breaker.
Those who wish to set up such outlets must first engage a Qualified Person to submit the relevant fire safety plans for approval.
This person could be an architect registered with the Singapore Institute of Architects or a professional engineer registered with the Professional Engineer Board.
The safety plans must conform to the Fire Code, which spells out escape measures and fire extinguishing medium.
A Registered Inspector will then be appointed to check on the fire safety works of the premises before a Fire Safety Certificate can be issued.
This is necessary in order for the operator to also obtain a Public Entertainment Licence before they can begin operations.
To be granted this licence, outlets must also fulfil three other conditions namely:
Ensure lighting is bright enough so that patrons are clearly visible.
Obtain prior approval if they wish to use any form of laser, and
Ensure there's no overcrowding of patrons in the premises at all times,
The SCDF says crowd capacity will be calculated based on the use of the establishment and net floor area.
