The Singapore Civil Defence Force today launched its Chemical Agents Scent Booth to help Singaporeans better identify eight poisonous gases by only their sense of smell.
For example, chlorine gas smells like bleach while hydrogen cyanide smells like almonds.
The Scents Booth will be exhibited on Emergency Preparedness Days as well as other community engagement activities around the island.
Visitors can get a whiff of the odours by sniffing some specially-made paper strips found at the booth.
SCDF says, the sense of smell is critical as some dangerous substances are invisible to the naked eye.
