STOMPer Alcom chanced upon
a rescue operation for a woman at Xiao Guilin, near Bukit Gombak MRT
station yesterday (July 9) at 6.45pm and sent in some photos he had
taken of it.
In an email to STOMP on July 10, he said:
"This took place on 9th July, at about 6.45pm.
"There was a big crowd gathered at 'Xiao Guilin' in Bukit Batok.
"I asked one person within the crowd, he claimed that he witnessed a woman fall into the lake of 'Xiao Guilin'.
"The police and SCDF arrived shortly for the search of the woman.
"Police set up barricade within the scene perimeter.
"The search went on for about 25 minutes before the drivers came in to the search too.
"At about 7.35pm, they manage to find the body from the lake, but nobody saw the body as the whole area is being barricade.
"SCDF personnel slowly left the scene systematically, leaving the
Police and ambulance there to gather more info on what actually took
place."
STOMP contacted the Police and they said:
"The Police received a call yesterday at 6.15pm that a woman was seen struggling in the pond at Bukit Batok Town Park .
"SCDF officers retrieved the body of a woman in her late 40s from the pond.
"She was pronounced dead at about 7.30pm.
"Police have ruled out foul play and are investigating the unnatural death."
SCDF says a body was retrieved from Little Guilin Lake, along Bukit Batok East Avenue 5, at about 6.15pm on July 9.
One fire engine, one Red Rhino, one ambulance, one amphibious vehicle (DART) and four support vehicles were deployed, it says.
SCDF said in its incident alert yesterday (July 9):
"This evening at 6.15 pm, SCDF was alerted to an incident at Little
Guilin Lake along Bukit Batok East Avenue 5 for a reported case of
person missing at the lake.
"SCDF immediately dispatched the above mentioned vehicles to the
incident location and arrived within 4 minutes. Using the DART’s
Amphibious Vehicle (AV), SCDF divers conducted search around the
location where the missing person was last seen.
"SCDF DART personnel dived approximately 2 metres and found the body of
a lady at approximately 7.20 pm. The body of the victim was located
about 5 metres away from the bank.
"The victim was pronounced dead by SCDF Paramedics."
