SCDF issues 14 fire hazard notices after checks
SINGAPORE : The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) conducted checks on Friday night to ensure hotels and entertainment outlets adhered to fire safety standards.
The checks were done on outlets in eight premises, such as Far East Plaza, Orchard Plaza and Marina Square.
At the end of the exercise, 14 fire hazard notices were issued.
Three outlets in Far East Plaza were each fined S$300 for offences which included locked fire exits, and faulty exit signs.
The Civil Defence says the enforcement checks serve to detect fire safety violations, and also promote safety awareness among the public.
The Civil Defence has conducted 1,054 enforcement checks in the first 10 months of this year.
Violators may be subjected to a fine not exceeding S$10,000 or to a jail term of not more than six months or both jail and fine. — CNA/ch
