Fire breaks out on third floor of block at Dover Road
SINGAPORE: A fire broke out at Block 4, Dover Road, around 12.20am on early Sunday morning.
The blaze at the third floor lift landing resulted in a lot of smoke in the corridor.
Officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) evacuated two women from a unit closest to the fire by placing a ladder at their kitchen window.
The firemen also rescued a man and two women in separate lifts after forcing open the elevators.
All five people were unhurt.
Residents from the second to the seventh floor were also evacuated.
Five of them had to be taken to National University Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
To stop the fire from spreading to neighbouring units, SCDF used two fire engines, one Red Rhino and two support vehicles.
The SCDF said the fire was extinguished in 10 minutes and it is investigating the cause of the fire which involved discarded items. — CNA/so
