SCDF launches Crisis Volunteer Scheme for NSmen
SINGAPORE : The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has launched a special programme for those who had served their National Service in the Civil Defence.
The aim is to engage this group so that they can volunteer their skills in the event of a crisis.
Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee launched the Crisis Volunteer Scheme on Friday evening.
And so far, 266 people have signed up.
They are professionals from various industries including engineering, medicine and media.
And during an emergency, they will be activated support the Home Team in crisis management.
The volunteers will be grouped according to where they live.
SCDF says the scheme is one avenue to ensure that the investment in NSmen is not wasted after their active service.
Each Crisis Volunteer will be given an appointment card and a kit which contains items such as a Ready—pouch and the Emergency Handbook.
The volunteer may at any time withdraw from the Scheme by writing to the SCDF HQ.
When necessary, they will be given training at the SCDF HQ.
They may also be invited to participate in major exercises and attend relevant functions. — CNA/ch
