Two killed in shophouse fire at Hougang
SINGAPORE : A man and a woman died in a fire which started at 1.28am on Thursday at a shophouse in Hougang.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said the fire engulfed three shop units on the ground floor of Block 683, Hougang Avenue 8.
The flames were brought under control within 15 minutes.
SCDF officers found a badly charred body, believed to be that of 26—year—old Ng Yong Soon.
He had been missing since the blaze.
His sister, 27—year—old Ng Li Hua, died in hospital after sustaining burns on 80 percent of her body.
The family had been living in a third floor unit.
MP for the area Mr Yeo Guat Kwang said that one of the units involved had been issued warnings for placing items along the corridor.
But the owners did not comply.
