Let me tell u from my experience. Cos I just entered 2 weeks ago.
First day, better to cut real short. No 1 will be best a few days before.(The shortest possible) This is because if the barber think it's long enough, he will just ask for $3 and cut a bit a bit. And if you cut beforehand, at least your hair will be handled properly. Cos for my hair, some are longer than others due to their incompetence. That's all about hair. But don't worry. After your 7 weeks of training, you are allowed to grow some hair. But not too long la.
Bring photocopy version of your bank book, highest cert and perhaps NRIC. That's what I did and I'm safe. And remember to ask your Next-Of-Kin(one of your parents or your guardian) his/her IC number, phone number. You gonna need it to fill up forms. Also, try to remember your bank account number.
Your first day is super slack. Just fill up forms and other declarations. Wayang for the parents who came. So confirm no tekan on first day. Hair cut for all after taking the pledge. Then stock taking. You will be issued your stuffs and all. Remember not to lose it. Perhaps bring permanent marker and white rubber tape to mark your utensils given to you.
As for handphones, you can bring them in. But MUST be worth less than $100. Highly recommended due to the high frequency of handphones 'running away'. But some PCs will force you to bring worthless HPs instead to guard against theft. As for camera phones, they will close one eye. But you must be smart enough not to take pics openly.
And bring key padlock. NEVER bring combi padlock. Many are masters of unlocking them.
And yeah. Don't bring ciggies, lighters. If you wear specs, make sure it's black and plastic frame.
A few words of advice. Just listen to their instructions. Follow them closely. Just obey them for 7 weeks and you'll be safe. For bunk inspection, clean really everything and standardise your room(eg, the way you put the mass tray. even the direction of your fork and spoon.) Cos they sometimes psycho la. Purposely find fault in your bunk. As long they find dirt, they happy already and will pump you guys.
Simple rule to survive. Be quick and fast. NEVER walk, be slow, sleep, be blur. If you're blur, good luck. You will be their main target. Some say CD slack. But it depends on those who is in charge of you. For me, i was from the 'FIT' squad and my platoon was tekan much more than others due to us being the 'FIT' squad which we never ask for anyway. Just be good and they'll be good to you. Anyway, practice drinking 500ml of water. You gonna need that skill for water parade. ERS even worse. 1 litre for water parade.
Since you're PES C, lucky you. You won't be exposed to much physical torture. Just get through your 7 weeks and it's an easy life for the rest of your 2 years. Make sure you learn fast. If you used to be from a uniformed group, you won't have much problem adapting to CD life. Just be on your guard always and remember to greet everyone else except for you recruits. 1st week basically is orientation. They will somehow make you guys on your tip toes and if they think you're disciplined enough, your 7 weeks will pass off smoothly.

And bring key padlock. NEVER bring combi padlock. Many are masters of unlocking them.Any specific type(Brand) to recommend?
If you wear specs, make sure it's black and plastic frame.Erm... what do you mean by black? plastic frame.... i think got problem... coz i have a rather bigger face shape so... you know...
So... I should cut my hair beforehand to avoid them cutting it too ugly eh?yeah..
yeap!
So i don't have to bring the original ones?
just your mess tray, mess mug and water bottle. must standardise with the rest. as in the way u write your name, rank, company, length of tape, position of tape, colour of marker and tape. tedious eh? any 1 mistake can result in pumping. for you, maybe slack la. if bravo and charlie, very slack one. alpha damn ON one.
So i just remember to name all of stuff ya?
Nope. No charger unless you're in ERS or an instructor.
Can i bring my charger? I heard its pretty strict on charging HP now...
not really. just get one with 3 keys good enough. 1 for your buddy. 1 for u. and 1 for spare.
Any specific type(Brand) to recommend?
lol... i dunoe about that. maybe you can try your luck. but the rule is black and plastic frame. so that if you break your specs, its just a cheap one. and it must be black to standardise with the rest.
Erm... what do you mean by black? plastic frame.... i think got problem... coz i have a rather bigger face shape so... you know...
Perhaps bring permanent marker and white rubber tape to mark your utensils given to youMarker Black or Blue? Thick or Fine one? Erm... For the tape... use rubber tape? not Masking tape?
just your mess tray, mess mug and water bottle. must standardise with the rest. as in the way u write your name, rank, company, length of tape, position of tape, colour of marker and tape. Will they guide us on where the standardise place to stick the names and the length and followed by name, rank, company?
Nope. No charger unless you're in ERS or an instructor.So... no charger? I have to bring afew more extra battery likdat?
lol... i dunoe about that. maybe you can try your luck. but the rule is black and plastic frame. so that if you break your specs, its just a cheap one. and it must be black to standardise with the rest.Hm... where did u get the rule? i realise how come the letter i got didn't tell me anything~ only ask me to bring toiletries, NRIC, Cert, Bank Book. So i must get a spec that has a plastic frame and it MUST be black?
hee still depends which unit i'm in bah~Originally posted by soulwinner:Wow so good life brother..
they will take it.. rmb to bring it. just in case, just bring a phtocopy one la.
Erm... for the documents rite, you mean i dun even hav to let them take my NRIC? I thought they'll take away the NRIC for the next 2 yrs?
Marker Black or Blue? Thick or Fine one? Erm... For the tape... use rubber tape? not Masking tape?doesn't matter black or blue. just standardise one bunk/platoon can already. masking tape also can la. but the smaller width one. and fine marker. cos need to write your particulars nicely. (rank name, platoon)
Will they guide us on where the standardise place to stick the names and the length and followed by name, rank, company?yeap... not to worry about that. just make sure you do as they say.
So... no charger? I have to bring afew more extra battery likdat?yeah... 2 spare batts should be enough. cos u can only use it from 5.30pm onwards till u sleep.
Hm... where did u get the rule? i realise how come the letter i got didn't tell me anything~ only ask me to bring toiletries, NRIC, Cert, Bank Book. So i must get a spec that has a plastic frame and it MUST be black?if u want, just wear your current one. they will give you up till the next book-in to change your specs. it's all about standardising. who knows if your platoon is slack and they don't give a damn about the colours or type of your specs. well... they also didn't say about rubber tape and marker. it's all up to your platoon superiors to set the additional rules. just don't argue with them even if they don't make sense.
yeah... as long black or plastic will do..
Something like this?
or this?
