Public Warning System sirens to sound on Feb 15 across Singapore
SINGAPORE: The Public Warning System sirens will sound the Important Message signal on Thursday, 15 February, at 12.05pm to commemorate Total Defence Day.
This is part of the Singapore Civil Defence Force's efforts to raise awareness about the three emergency signals and how the public should react when they hear each signal.
Once the public hears the minute-long signals, they can immediately tune in to any local FM radio station to listen to a special info-mercial broadcast and learn more about the three warning signals.
The Important Message signal is characterised by pulsating blasts, the Alarm signal by wailing blasts and the All Clear signal by continuous blasts.
The warning system is a network of sirens placed at strategic points throughout the island.
It is designed to warn the public of imminent threats that could endanger lives and property. – CNA/so

Sounding of Public Warning System on Total Defence Day on 15 Feb 07
On Thursday, 15 February 2007 at 12.05pm , the SCDF will be sounding the “Important Message” signal through the islandwide network of PWS sirens in commemoration of Total Defence Day. The sounding is part of SCDF’s continuous efforts to acquaint members of public with the PWS’ 3 emergency signals as well as to raise general awareness on how the public should react upon hearing each signal. Members of public are advised not to be alarmed by the minute-long sounding exercise.

Members of the public are also encouraged to understand more about the PWS signals and other emergency procedures by visiting the SCDF website at http://www.scdf.gov.sg/Community_and_CD_Volunteers/Learn_Civil_Defence/War_Time_Emergencies/wartime06.html Alternatively, they may also refer to the CD Emergency Handbook (Page 69) for more information on the PWS signals (Refer to Annex A); or call the SCDF Emergency Information Hotline at 1800-286-5555 to hear the audio recording of the PWS sirens.
