SCDF rescue drug addict threatening to jump from flat to escape arrest
SINGAPORE : There was high drama in Ang Mo Kio on Tuesday morning when a drug addict tried to escape arrest.
Anti-narcotics officers had zeroed in on him as part of an island-wide anti-drug operation.
The man had climbed out of the kitchen window on the 7th floor of a flat in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4.
Eye witnesses said he threatened to jump if CNB officers got too close to him.
"On his right hand, he was holding onto the bamboo holder, and his body was forward 45 degrees. But we below all shouted, "No! No! Please don't!" I also shouted "Please don't" and I said "Think of your family, think of your family please! I beg you don't," described one eye witness.
Officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force rushed to the scene and laid out inflated mattresses below the flat.
Meanwhile, four officers embarked on a movie-like rescue from the 6th and 8th floor.
After a two-hour standoff, the man was brought safely back into his flat and sent to the Singapore General Hospital.
The man's neighbours say he and his family had moved in a year ago but kept mostly to themselves. - CNA /ls
