Red Rhino crash

It was really unfortunate that such an incident could happen. Pity the poor woman passenger who died. Heard someone say that the Rhino driver could end up in General Detention. Where is that place?

Sometimes when responding to Emergency calls, we may need to overtake
some red traffic lights. We are saving lives, every min is crucial. Sometimes if
the despatch sheet says " Child trapped in burning flat " , we are not going to
wait at the traffic light! We will beat the traffic light with our siren and beacon
lights on.
However we also need to take a lookout for any incoming vehicles who
actually have the right of way as it is green light for them. Some will slow
down and give way, some refuse to give way and sped pass. Mostly taxis
and big saloon cars.
It is regretful such an accident has happened. -

If there is an absolute need to shoot pass that red light to respond to urgent calls, we would make sure our siren and beacon is on. When approaching the intersection, always slow down and make sure that the other vehicles are giving way before proceeding.
I have experiences with taxi drivers and big saloon cars not wanting to give way. Of course they have the right of way as it is green light for them.
Just think about CD fire engines and rhinos responding for calls that could result in lives lost in a matter of minutes.
So the moral of the story is, give way.
We have mounted cameras and will not hesitate to report errant drivers to TP , who refused to give way to us. -

Barely a few months after the LFAV killed a female passenger inside a taxi, another LFAV crashed into a vehicle at the junction and overturned. As a result one of our SCDF personnel died. As a result our commissioner has taken on extreme measures. In future, all SCDF vehicles are to follow traffic lights irregardless of the nature of the call , or the traffic flow.
which means to say, in the middle of the night when there are no vehicles at all, we must still come to a stop when the red lights are on.
