Mr Wong Hong Kuan, who was appointed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Policy) since 1 November 2010 in the Singapore Police Force (SPF), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), will be appointed as Chief Executive (CE) of the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) with effect from 1 June 2011.
Mr Wong, aged 39, will succeed Mr Chan Heng Kee, aged 42, who will be taking up another public sector appointment with effect from 1 April 2011. Mr Goh Eng Ghee, currently WDA's Deputy CE, will be appointed Acting CE of WDA from 1 April to 31 May 2011, before Mr Wong's appointment comes into effect.
Mr Wong graduated with First Class Honours in Accountancy from the Nanyang Technological University on a Singapore Government Local Merit Scholarship and joined the Singapore Police Force (SPF) in 1995. He was appointed as a Foreign Fellow under the Fulbright Programme in 2003 and graduated from the Harvard Business School with a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in 2005.
Mr Wong has held many appointments within and outside the SPF since he started his career in the public sector 16 years ago. These include Director of Operations in the SPF, Commander of Bedok Police Division and Commander of Police Training Command. He also served as Assistant Director (Infrastructure & Economy) in the Ministry of Finance. In addition, Mr Wong has contributed to the community through his involvement with the National Committee on Youth Guidance and Rehabilitation, the National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) Council, the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) and on the board of the Singapore Land Authority (SLA).
