Hi, would like to know what rank (sgt, insp, asp etc) would it need to be for a position (Team leader, OO, CO etc).
Most preferred if its could be written in the following manner...
Rank Position
Corporal Patroling guards (Not sure if there is such position)
Sgt Patroling Leader
.
.
.
Station Inspector Team Leader (TL)
SSI
SSI(2)
Inspector TL, IO
ASP TL,IO,
so on and so forth. The above is not accurate i made it up myself. Would like to know the ranks can feed into what position? Hope that those that know can chip in thanks.

DTL usually Senior Staff and up. TL usually Station inspector and up. IO usually sergeant and up (haven't seen Cpl IO before)
Rank to role is more for SPO.
SIO ==> inspector and above
TL ==> ASP and up
NPC commander ==> DSP and up
Division ==> DAC and up
and many staff positions in between

for SO ranks i dun wanna comment much.....not dat wise to climb up too fast...dats all i wanna say
DTL is deputy Team leader? What is SIO? I thought quite a number of division commander is Supt. The IO u mentioned is it Investigation officer? Isnt it the same position as what a Senior officer will do right after he came out of training school? What about Neighbourhood police post, any position there?

I think you need to go to academy to know what Cpl can or cannot do.

Even tiggerific knows
"actually corporal also can make the report. but the statement of the accused person can only be recorded by someone of rank sergeant and above. it's in accordance with the criminal procedure code."

which division has a Supt commander? They will probably be promoted soon bah.... Each NPP has exactly one post.
2003, in Juliet, Lee Boon Kum, Supt...DY-Commd being Ng Yeow Boon, DSP.
Now management move the rank up 1 level. so normally need DSP to be CO and Supt to be Dy-Commd

Here is the criminal procedure code. Yes, it is online.
tiggerific, when you are free, tell me about this statement thing bah. Is your statement different from the ones i see the SC and corporals take on the ground.

actually no lah. SIO [Senior Investigation Officer] is a vocation, and not determined by rank actually. If you are a senior officer, you will attain this qualification by the time your first-ever posting [which will be in any Land Division's Investigation Branch] ends. But this vocation is applicable to junior officers too. So long as you have been sent for the course, irrespective of your rank, you will be a qualified SIO.
Likewise for Team Leaders. The second posting for Senior Officers, they will either be Inspectors or Assistant Superintendents of Police [ASPs]. If junior officers are holding this post, then the established rank will be Station Inspector [SI] and above.
For commanders in Land Divisions, they will usually be Superintendents [minimum]. Some will get their promotions while in this post, so they will be Deputy Assistant Commisioners of Police [DAC].
For Commanding Officers of the various NPCs, most are usually DSPs, but there are the younger ones who might be holding this post with a rank of ASP [usually scholars]. Operations Officers are usually a minimum of ASP.

The difference lies in whose statement is being recorded. Corporals can record statements. They only cannot record the statement of accused persons, i.e. arrested persons.
But yes, it is precisely because of this that IOs are all holding the rank of Sgt at the very least.
Just for easy reference, sec 122 (5) of the criminal procedure code states that:
Admissibility of statements to police.
122 - (5) Where any person is charged with an offence any statement, whether it amounts to a confession or not or is oral or in writing, made at any time, whether before or after that person is charged and whether in the course of a police investigation or not, by that person to or in the hearing of any police officer of or above the rank of sergeant shall be admissible at his trial in evidence and, if that person tenders himself as a witness, any such statement may be used in cross-examination and for the purpose of impeaching his credit:

yup, people below that rank gets promoted to that post, and likely that they will get promoted while in that post.
Like posting an ASP to NPC commander, most likely will get promoted to DSP soon.
For SIO, it is the ranking officer of the day that will do bah?

Both JOs and SOs in the Singapore Police Force are involved as IOs in investigations branch. The only difference lies in the stages of their career: for SOs, it is the first thing they do upon posting out [unless they are JO-converts who have already done their stint there], but for JOs they are usually there some time after their first posting.
About your question on posts at an NPP, I think you might be referring to NPC [neighbourhood police centres] instead. This is because NPPs come under charge of an NPC. Only one person mans the NPP for that one day. It is part of the duty, just like patrols and such. SO posts in an NPC are either Commanding Officer or Operations Officer.
Hope this helps...

AFAIK, they give u the rank b4 the post....

on the ground, when attending to incidents, any Police Officer [SC, SC/Cpl, SC/Sgt, Sgt, etc] can record a statement. It is just that once a person has been placed under arrest and brought back to divisional headquarters, the arrested person's statement can only be recorded by the Investigator.
It is for this reason that IOs need to be of rank Sgt and above. There is a slight difference in the statements of accused persons and any other person, but I cannot disclose here. OSA.

Haha. agreed mate. In IB only have positions / vocations. Rank... more or less same. Unless supervisors lor. Haha. And from what I remember, last time don't even have the [2] in SO ranks. Only Insp, ASP, DSP. Then somehow I think got too many so they introduced the [2] so we have I, I-2, then A, then A-2, etc.
Too many SOs, and too many JOs resigning. Still. Haha.
