Are shopkeepers legally allowed to stop us when we steal?

Say I steal sth from this shop
The shopkeeper see me put the thing in my bag
Is he legally allowed to chase me down and take the things back by force?

he has the right to do so but with regards to the by force, it depends on which kind..
imagine if you were the shopkeeper in this situation, dun tell me u'll let him get away scot free meh..

i understand that people will be angry as shit when they see people steal from their shop and maybe in their rage they personally go whack the thief or something
but is that allowed or not
or only security is allowed to lay a finger on us

No. We are not the Middle East. Where chopping off the hands of the thieves are allowed.Shopkeepers are not allowed to whack the thieves. But they like any public spirited people can take down, detain or capture the theives and hand them over to the police. (
But in the event that you struggled 'FELL DOWN AND HURT YOUR OWN SELF'. Then no one will borther.)
{Its been experienced that plenty of people in this world is "BLIND" & "DEAF". So you fight or get hurt, its your pasa. Especially if its a scenrio as you suggested.)
The police will also take away the items that is stolen as evidence of the crime.
No. Not only security. Any mean Person on the street will be allowed to lay their fingers on you. Not forgetting your parents or elders will be laying their fingers round your throat for bringing such dishonour upon them. (Just not legal, but if no blue uniform there to watch. Who is there to object?)

The fell down and hurt himself/herself includes:
"He/She ran, tripped, fell and hit his/her eyes at the doorknob."
"He/She ran, tripped, fell and tore his/her clothes at the door knob."
"He/She ran, tripped, fell and donno how bruised his own abdomen, arms, legs, face & pull his/her hair out themselves."
"He/she struggled under my arm/knees/body and injured himself/herself even though I told them not to struggle/run/fight."

it's illegal to beat the shoplifter up. But if the beating is not very serious kind (unlike teeth drop, fracture bones), then even if the police is there, they wun really do anything except asking the beater to stop.

yeah...it's the same like the PRC execution style qiang bi where many executioners were required to fire their weapon at same time at the death row, so that people esp. relatives of the death row wun know who delivered the lethal shot. so in theory badzmaro's method can be done and men in blue can't determine who did delivered the final blow and can't prosecute anyone for killing the shoplifter
