Hi all, I need you guys' help.. I am writing a position paper and in order to aid in my argument, I need to know the number of unsolved crimes in Singapore. I have emailed the SIngapore Police Force, Crime Investigation Department to request for it but no reply from them yet. :( I have also searched their websites on crime statistics but can only find the number of crimes committed but not the number of unsolved cases. Hopefully, you guys can help me on this. Thanks alot. :)
wah biang eh, u tink they so free to entertain u ah.
u go approach crime library mabbe still got chance.
msk running away considered unsolved or notch..
dont think u will be able to find the number. cos it implies the incompetence of our police force if the number is high.
mas selamat's case counted?
that is like, doing your homework for you. And what makes you think that the people here access to that kind of info? The CID is busy solving cases, not busy entertaining public, find a more relevant department to approach, like PAD. They were actually hoping for people to tip them off for any crimes with that email account, and not to dig into their records to answer questions.
try public affair department.

the numbers are relative to other police forces bah.
Yes, Mas Selamat Case is counted. Why do you guys want to ask that? Like a bit juvenile.
plus bukit batok nature reserve's linda chua.
plus the mcd's missin boy.
so liddat u juz put got 3 unsolved cases lah.
To hellokitty: Thanks for informing about crimelibrary, I totally missed it. I have emailed the editor for his help.
To Airry: Ya, that's what I think also, but in the United States they do disclose the number of unsolved cases to the public. Well, I can only say that different countries have different rules.
To skythewood: I believed u have misunderstood why I am asking help. My "homework" is not only about finding the numbers, these numbers are just statistics that will take me a further step to qualify my position in my essay. Furthermore, I have looked under SPF list of contacts and I did not find the email address of their Public Affair Department, also i have just realised that the email address i sent to is for CNCC (Certificate of No Criminal Conviction) :( They only provide telephone numbers for their departments. My purpose of posting here is to let you guys suggest channels, which i have missed out, that can help to answer my queries.
http://www.spf.gov.sg/abtspf/pad.htm#dept
and search carefully, you will see this.
They don't have unsolved crimes. They have cases that are still open, i.e. the investigation is still on going. I think in Singapore there is no statute of limitation on crime. That means a case is open until closed. So you can be hauled up for parking summons that was issued 20 years ago.
To skythewood: Thanks for your help, I missed that cos I went to contact us under their main website. http://www.spf.gov.sg/contactus/contactus_index.htm which did not include the public affairs department. I will email one of them for help. :)
To mancha: Hmm.. but if a crime is committed 30years ago, does it mean that they are still investigating it now untill they solve it? From my understanding is that they will, put it aside first and then as they go along to crack new cases, if they happen to find links to the previous case then they will reopen it.
Maybe you rephrase you query.
"How many open cases does the SPF have that is more than one year?"

sky is right. you should approach PAD for those statistics which you seek. but the number will be quite substantial, because the definition as an "unsolved crime" is rather broad: it could be an unnatural death case with the court ruling as an open verdict, those crime cases which are still open [pending fresh leads], etc.
