A former police inspector in charge of a commercial crime squad has been charged for accepting a bribe in mid 2004.
Sylvester Marian, who was attached to the Bedok Police Division then, agreed to be more leanient towards a person he was investigating, in exchange for $5,000.
The person under investigation was one Leong Weng Loong.
It's through his friend Eric Soh, who was also a friend of Marian, from whom Marian received the money.
For this, Marian could be fined up to $100,000, jailed up to five years or both.
Marian also faces 11 other charges.
One of them is for giving false information.
In October 2006, Marian told a CPIB officer that he wasn't aware of the corruption complaint against him, when in fact, he knew.
For this, he faces the maximum $10,000 fine or jail term of up to one year or both.
Ten other charges are for his unauthorized access of the Police Force's computer system to obtain information.
This was between February and August 2005.
He wanted to retrieve the residential addresses of two of his former girlfriends and one of their ex-husband's.
For this, he's liable to a fine of not more than $5,000 or imprisonment of up to 2 years or both.
In the case of the second and subsequent conviction, he could be fined up to $10,000, jailed up to 3 years or both.
Marian, who was represented by Mr Surian Sidambaram, was offered bail of $20,000.
His passport was impounded.
The case was adjourned to the 29th of January for a pre-trial conference.
