i hav a qn here. is sending lewd sms or msn from a guy to a gal considered outrage of modesty to a gal? can the gal take the sms or print the msn dialogue and show to police for proof of outrage of modesty?

no la. my fren she got kena. so if the guy send lewd msn or sms to her again, i duno whether can report to police anot.

But a civil suit is definitely possible imo.

The answer is.... No...
Outraging of modesty (1) doesn't restrict to only women... (2) is defined as a physical outrage of modesty i.e. there must be physical contact for there to be outrage of modesty... even your long fingernail touch the other person's hair and if the person feels his/her modesty was outrage still counts...What you're looking for is Chapter 223 section 502 of the penal code, Word or gesture intended to insult the modesty of a woman.
Whoever, intending to insult the
modesty
of any woman, utters any word, makes
any sound or gesture, or exhibits any object, intending that such
word or sound shall be heard, or that such gesture or object shall
be seen by such woman, or intrudes upon the privacy of such woman,
shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend
to one year, or with fine, or with both.I find this act too general... This means if you go up to a girl and say Hi, she can claim that you insulted her modesty... luckly this is not a seizable offence...
So in conclusion, Outrage of modesty applies to both men and women and but have the presence of physical contact. Insult of modesty of women applies only to women and must by word, gestures or any other form of messages.

Sec 354A(1) Cap 224 = Outrage Modesty of any person in certain circumstances...
Sec 509 Cap 224 = Insulting Modesty of a women...

Make a police report, take the police report to criminal registry located at Sub Court.
The Court will order the police to dig out this fella and Summon, (not that fine kinda summon.) that fella to face to face the female object he had abused, verbally.
The Court can order a apology of him, or make him pay a fine.
If those text messages contains somewhat similar to threats to her life, cause her bodily hard or hurt her modesty, we call it he threated to rape her or f her or f her mother and sister crap or as simple as him saying he will post naked pics stuffs or tell others who she slept with...
Then the fella can look forward to more then a fine. His mobile phone suspended and whichever else.
Its easier to advise when the victims or the abuser's race, age, religion is mentioned. So far, the general stuffs is above. But reputation wise, other races then chinese tend to have better effect.
