the more important question is .... how come a round was chambered in the first place ......
unless the SPF follows diffferent procedures from the SAF altogether .... I think someone's looking at squatting inside for some time .....
one dont have father's day. The other go to jail and is still a man. I would rather be the latter.

Maybe one of the SPF fellas can shed some light onto this?
If it turns out that no rounds are to be chambered, then the fella is in deeper shit than ever.
There should be three safety barriers to prevent accidental discharge:
a). Weapon should not be cocked.
b). Even if it's cocked, the weapon should be put to safe.
c). Finger should be off the trigger.
I don't know about SPF duty, but my side we don't load the loaded magazine into the gun.

Don't feel thus.
so guard duty just carry the gun wayang wayang oni?
hmmmmm ... the newspaper says the matas usually carry loaded weapons during their guard duty .....
actually the loaded mag shud be put inside the mag pouch mah. why police need to load their gun meh? damn sian to see fello nsf get charged man.
last time put in poach. now change in directive due to "certain" incidence.
but i got misfiring gun before. the moment i load the round into the chamber, it fires off.... think some mechanism faulty.... but heng is blank, so not too bad.
the platoon sergeant tried it himself, same results, so conclude not my fault :)
but this one..... not too sure...

Actually, all SPF personnel carry loaded weapons while on duty. This is where the safety guidelines regarding weapon handling as well as loading/unloading come into the picture.
Especially your last point about finger being off the trigger..
Ermmm.....I dont remember when spf does not load their weapons for duties.
Even for the PCG, when they have those M16 & HKMP5s, its always unloaded by the last shift, reloaded and chambered with the safety on by the new shift taking over.

So the basic safety barriers to accidental discharge are:
1. Weapon put to safe.
2. Finger off the trigger.
In short, the weapon was really screwed up, or the fella screwed up on both counts.
