Does the local police force possess this right;
-to ask for identification, and information in any form(usual routine?)
-and the storage of information(name, IC number, address) in written form. (in a notebook in this case)
-I noted that the ezlink cards turned over were scanned by some kind of device, can anyone shed any light on what that device does?
Was having lunch at an old shopping mall, admittedly (in)famous for being a hotbed for punks and the like, and while leaving was approached by three policemen who appeared to be collecting personal information of possibly anyone in school uniform for reasons not known.
The group unfortunately consisted of six people which made the outcome somewhat expected but, is the mass solicitation of IDs common or ethical in this context?
Does the subject have a right to reject such inspections or can the enforcing party be made to compromise on their part?
Many Thanks.

Police can ask for your identification if there is a resonable suspicion you did something wrong or during routine checks... but its not against the law not to bring your NRIC... However Police would usually ask for IC coz it makes the process easier...
All routine checks details are recorded in a diary so yea... But all of Singapore citizen and permanent resident identification is avaliable in Police Database...
??? what talking you?
If you refuse to disclose your ID, Police has the right to arrest you and bring you back to station to ascertain your Identity...

Name and ID for routine checkes... sometimes contact no. to make it easier to contact the person if involved to a case...
If the credit card no. is involved with the case then also must ask...

he is exercising his right to conduct the check. and to be polite about it, he asked nicely. not solicit, as it is not a request, but a command.
