Only 2 ways to get there, if don't want to take cab...
My advice choose route 1: Go CCK MRT take cab (if rushing for time), if early then take bus depending on situation...
Hi all,
Actually the bus 172 travels between boon lay and cck bus interchanges... So you can take that from cck as well.
But somehow I feel that taking east-west mrt line is much faster than the north-south one. :)
i.e., tampines to boon lay should take shorther time... no need to change trains... all the way from tampines to boon lay.

- Tampines MRT to Choa Chu Kang MRT station and go opposite to the bus stop and take 975... (Estimated how long??)
- Tampines MRT to Boon Lay Bus Interchange and take 172(Estimated how long??)

Hi All,
Really appreciate all your advice...just some questions?
Well, I haven't traveled there by mrt or bus for some time...
based on the info from the website below :
gothere.sg
1) the east-west line mrt+172 bus from boon lay will take abt 1.5 hours
2) I tried to do a search for the tampines-cck mrt +172 scenario, but it gave me some other route... you can check it out. :)
I find this "gothere.sg" very useful for route planning whether I am driving or taking public transport... You guys can give it a try, too... :)
From Tampines to HTA by public transport , I never try before, but I guess it needs 2 hours. The worse is, after training, how to go back to Tampines by public transport??? yes, catch the last bus or train, when back to tampines, it will be 1am....Good luck..
bus ride 20mins
train ride 1hour.
the rest u calculate urself.
My experience is that after the first visit, all the trainees start pooling. Most guys who have a car will offer to drop others at MRT, bus or near their home.

Hey, u also VSC??
Yes I am.
Hi Sw world & to all,
am new here & happen to see ur dicussion on this VSC thingy.
Can I chk with u, SW world since u r from VSC, how many intake in a yr?
The whole process, as in how many weeks/months it take from the first meeting to the moment u know u r selected to jin VSC.
Thks.
It took me a total of 8 months from date of application to commencement of training. But it appears that I am sort of an expection. Those in my squad waited between 4-6 months.
The format of processing seems to have changed so I can't advise of that.
There is about 3-4 intakes per year.
and yes, it was a painful wait.
VSC, no matter what, is VOLUNTARY.
Your focus shouldnt be just on it. Though its nice if you are committed to the hours needed for the training, disciplin and its duties later.
You should instead focus on your life. Like getting your degrees, loving your family members, socialising with your friends and generally getting on with life.
And even after you completed the training. You should remember the above.
Most of the VSCs deployed, are passionate about the work. We are committed, but we treat it more as a hobby, then something that stagnant us in life.
VSCs built our character, our discipline, our personalities and our confidence.
And no matter how painful, our VSCs are expected to protect themselves first and foremost by being strong themselves, before protecting others.
We serve to protect. We commit with passion, and we volunteer with wisedom.
I know it sounds corny. Blame it on my 2am lack of sleep pounding on the keyboards.
Thks for enlightenment. Anyone know when will be the next briefing/interview/intake?
Thks.
You will receive letters and phone calls on those briefings, interviews & swearing in ceremonies.
Hi Feded11,
It varies per person. My case was much longer for some specific reasons. But really I have to echo Viciouskitty74. VSC is a 'dedicated hobby' so don't worry about delays or rejections. It has to be a litte bit more than a hobby, because you do make sacrifices from time to time, but it has to stay firmly behind work and family.
If you feel they have forgotten about you, write a letter to the recruitment office. I found that I would invariably get a letter or email back from an officer there. Responses would be quite general like "We will inform you as soon as [whatever] takes place.", but at least you know your application is still in process.
Specially for you I made a call to the recruitment office and this was there reply "All applicants will be informed of the next date at the appropriate time."
This thread really helps a lot on all the info.
Got letter from them and asked to go briefing on 3rd October or 7th November..
Hmph... still hesistating..
does the police do a reference check on you? like whether you have a criminal record and things like that?
Yes,they do. Which is why processing takes a hell lot of time.
Hi,
I was an SC/Sgt in 'E', vocation NPCO. I ORDed on 10/12/2009 and I am keen on joining as VSC. Would like to ask if the VSC training duration would be reduced for ex-SCs like me?
Asked my regulars in my team about this issue and I got very different answers..
