Bullying Police Officers

Imagine that you were in his shoes and your papers dropped. Will you be smiling happily. I was at Serangoon Road for the Deepavali pasar malam with my friend. Then there were cars that were parked at the double yellow line and 2 police officers were issuing tickets. They were police officers not the parking officers nor Traffic Police. So they were standing on the pavement and talking to a lady in the car. Then as there was no place to walk,as on the right the grass was muddy and the had the car, i walked behind them,squeezing my way past. Then i accidentally banged one of them and his papers dropped. I turned around and i said 'Hey very sorry'. Then the police officer just stared at me, he just stared like those gangsters do when they have a problem.
He gave that look and just stared. Then i said sorry again. He just stared angrily. Then he looked down as his papers had fallen and stared back at me. Me and my friend just stood there. Then he asked 'Why must you bang?' I said 'sorry ah not purposely what, i was walking you can see there's no space and why must i bang you?' Then he continued staring. I was angry as well because this was completely absurd. It was a complete accident. I would had happily picked up the papers for him had he not given that f uck face. I mean accidents happen and i had appologised as well.
If you bang into a stranger,even they forget the matter when you said sorry. And here was a police officer, showing off his authority and staring at me and trying to intimidate me. Even his officer seemed shock at what was happening.Then i told him again as he was still staring angrily 'Look i already told you i'm sorry, what more you want, you think i wanna bang you for fun is it?' At that point my friend held me and said 'F uck it la,let's go'.
I mean fine it may be my mistake that i banged accidentally. It was not as if i sent him flying. It was purely accidental. Even strangers tend to smile or walk away. Sigh. Please share your views.
Well just live and let live, forgive and forget. You will be a happier person than bearing grudges.
If you still feel unhappy on this matter just drop a comment to the unit it may make you happier that way.

Btw, as an police officer when on uniform. Projecting the good image of Singapore law enforcer is important. If not,I think all Singapore Police officer can smoke while on duty and visit Geylang pros.Cos they are also human and got their needs too,right?

I'd agree with VJunkie's assumption, i.e with the area being muddy and all, it's highly possible that the controlled forms were in a physically bad condition after the fall. I think that could be the main reason why he looked less-than-pleased with you. I wouldn't be too quick to jump the gun though. You have to understand though that what you offer the forumites here is your perspective, and to be fair, perspectives are always subjective.
For example, to you, he could be staring at you and attempting to intimidate you. But it could also be possible that he was just looking at you the normal way he looks at people. He might, or he might not. My point is, you wouldn't know him well enough to tell. He might be a moody fart, or maybe he just looks like he's got a permanent scowl.
Likewise your choice of words. 'sorry ah not purposely what, i was walking you can see there's no space and why must i bang you?' and 'Look i already told you i'm sorry, what more you want, you think i wanna bang you for fun is it?' could be your way of explaining yourself, and likewise he could have seen it as your being rude or smth like that, depending on the tone you use. No one else here knows what actually transpired except the four of you and maybe one objective eyewitness, i.e. the lady in the car.
If you asked me, I'd say that all this is just a misunderstanding, brought about by assumptions. For all you know, he might not think too much of the entire incident, or he might even have forgotten the incident altogether. Don't take it to heart lah. You're only spending unnecessary energy doing so.

I would had happily picked up the papers for him. In fact when i said sorry i realized the papers had fallen and when i took 1 step forward i saw his reaction was the very screwed up kind, the way he was staring and stuff. Thus i decided not to pick them up. After all, it was not on intention.
He dropped his papers on the road which was very dry as only the grass on the right hand side was muddy. But well, like i said, he was in uniform and thus that was not wise in my opinion.
Fine the way i talked may had been rude but i appologised sincerely and nicely at first,but well.... -
Well, just treat it as an unfortunate encounter then. No point you expend unnecessary energy recounting the incident right? You'll only tire yourself out. If you deem the fellow to be a bad example in uniform, then that is your perogative. If you'd like, as some forumers have suggested, you can write in to feedback on the person's behaviour.
Just remember one very important thing: one bad encounter you experienced doesn't mean the entire Police Force is bad, okay? You do a great injustice to the rest of the Police Force who risk their lives everyday doing what they do.

I have very similar experiences with members of public.
And was even manhandled by some, just because it serves their ego, to boast to their friends that they did that and even made complaints against me that my attitude was rude.
I had no recourse against such abuses. -

complaints, justified or otherwise, have and will always be part of the territory that comes with doing what we do.
i think all this is brought about by the 'service quality' misconception. the 'service' we are 'supposed' to offer should not be the same as that which you find in the retail industry. amazingly though, that is what people tend to expect.
anyway kitty, just to ask... if you kena manhandled... that would constitute using criminal force on a public servant during the discharge of duties, no? no course of action taken against the perpetrator? -
He was told off. Then I didnt want to think about it and continued my patrols.
Much later, in that same night, that fella went to the police station, lodged that complaint against me and insisting that I was abusing my uniform and power.
The IO then explained that I should have just grab that farker, handcuff him back and charged him in court instead of letting him off to make such complaints first.
These arent the first time I encountered these issues. -
In the normal scheme of things.

I think that PO was just trying to determine why he was being banged into.
To think TS couldnt say excuse me to make the PO move his backside to allow him to pass thru the narrow walkway away from the mud and grass......
Then bang into the officer, say sorry and spend how many minutes standing there saying sorry and observing the PO's stares and had to be pulled away by is friends? -

Regulars, IMHO, have totally no reason for doing so. Being policeman is their ricebowl; do you think they will create unnecessary complains to ruin their job?
Well, it's just my assumption thou, for most of the time many of the NS men are always fooling about, disgracing the police force. -
i have seen NS policeman serving the force with the same amount of pride compared to VSC or Regular Officers. Although i dun deny the fact that NS pooliceman are ''forced'' to served, but there are many of them who serve the nation with pride in the uniform.

And I liked to mention again. I believe that TS's description is a response from which how he had treated a PO.
If the TS had banged into a normal person standing on the street....is the responses of that person any different then that of the said officer?
Or its just a matter of uniform envy resulting in TS continued rambling against a PO? -
I did not pick up the papers. I had mentioned earlier i think that i moved forward to pick em up but the way he was looking at me i did not want to bother.
He was talking to someone in the car and there WAS enough space for me to walk through. I don't go around banging POs for fun, but next i realized i had banged into him. And i don't bang into people ALL the time but those i've had, i've said sorry and the matter has been left there. Same for others who have banged into me and they say sorry and i forget it the next second.
So if you are saying that the PO was right to stare at me 1 kind, and talk angrily when i had appologised,then ok i say it is my fault. So i would probably think that POs must do that every time you bang into them. If it was my fault, wouldn't his partner had said anything? Scolded me or something as well? He was looking at the PO talking to me and seemed shocked. -
