Any VSCs here based in the Land Divisions (ie 'A' - 'G' div)? Just thought I'd ask and see what's it like as a VSC across the different divs. Cheers all.

They consist a very wide spectrum of duties.
Roughly similiar set up, with similiar rules in the various divisions. Lots of them juggle multiple roles with regards to VSC works at different stages of time and periods of their lives.
So it can be kinda difficult to tell what is the general information you really need to know.
There is admin, patrols, plain clothes, standby drivers, 2 wheelers, warrant teams, dispatch drivers, NPCOs, Charge Rooms & Organising Committees.
So it quite a mix sometimes.
There are some who are also regular volunteers with the temples, RC, Civil Defence, children homes & shelters.
There are teachers from schools, prison services, dentist, taxi drivers, lecturers and some more...
The recent more prominent example is a auditor, currently attached to CAD.
When we say attached, it means that the auditor belongs to a division, but sort of also part time with the CAD. -
how long do VSC NPCOs train if NPCO is a 3 month long course?

There are some, who runs their own business and are semi retired and they follow the same schedule of the regulars on their NPCO course.
Others, they do not dwell into all of the NPCO course subjects but focus on those they are interested in or have time allowed for.
My understanding about NPCO courses, is that they usually try to exclude the VSC as the NPCO courses slots are very much in demand for the regulars instead of for VSCs, NS/PNS & VCs. So not much VSCs has gone thru the courses. -

oh. 'rank-and-file' means that they start out as a JO, and then make their way up, ie from cpl to sgt, ssgt, sssgt, etc, before assuming the rank of insp eventually, or do they start out as insp/asp directly upon entering [not unlike our regular SOs].Originally posted by viciouskitty74:I'm sorry. They go rank and file. Except for some cases. Time and again, VSCs does not follow the ranking processes. They keep changing it and have their own rules.Originally posted by Tiggerific:oh. Generally, most VSCs recruits, after completing their training, are awarded Cpl (V) rank.
There are some like ex-regulars, PNS or ex VSCs are awarded their last rank in service when they joined VSC.
There was previous other ranking procedures that some recruits, after a years service, and their qualifications has degrees, are promoted to Insp(V).
New ranking procedures now in place, that those who 'displayed' exceptional leadership qualities *snort* are put up for acting Inspector rank and promoted officially to Inspector(V) rank after a year service as acting inspector.
Soooo....you may be a corporal of a year, a 14 year serving staff sergeant, with some proven track record and good educational qualifications....and you can be put up for acting inspector rank for a year and get your inspector rank.
Or....you can be contented to be a corporal for 14 years and do whatever you truly like to do, instead of hankering after the rank.
PS. They have more reasons not to put u up for a promotion then to actualy put you up for one. Easily from: Your hours not enough for one particular year in the past 7 years, to no IPPT due to injuries so you cannot be promoted or you didnt do well in your shooting. Or the best ones......you didnt do your VSC job well enough...(make a guess how you can do your job well, but because you dont angkat your senior officers or make a show of how 'fantastic you did your job'. -

Yes they do attend to messages as well as long as they are assigned to the messages. Sometimes they still do even if the messages was not assigned to them (Kapoh lah). -

Regulars also from different aspect of the SPF.
For where lah I liked to know this regular is from.
I still have a gripe with HQ regulars blocking the reinstatement of a ASP rank for someone.
ASP rank is issued and conferred by the ministers. I didnt know that regulars now has the power to demote the ASP and insist the ASP starts at the rank of Corporal. -
