Police fire shot, arrest man for wielding chopper at crowd
A dispute over a sugarcane drink led to a gunshot at the Boon Lay hawker centre.
Police fired a shot and later arrested a man who was earlier seen wielding a chopper at bystanders in the hawker centre.
Witnesses said it all started just before 2pm in front of a sugarcane stall.
A man, in his 40s, had approached two women and a toddler for a sip of their sugarcane juice.
He got upset when the women tried to shoo him away.
Bystanders then saw him running into a nearby food stall.
"I came over and told him to stop. He insisted on taking the knife and glared at me. I got scared and ran away," said stallholder Lee Sek Kiong.
With the chopper in his hand, the man was next seen charging towards two police officers who were called to the scene.
Despite the officers' warnings, the man continued to advance on them.
One of the officers then fired a shot on the ground as the other apprehended the man and placed him under arrest.
Police said no one was injured.
Stallholders told Channel NewsAsia that they started seeing the man loitering around the market only in the last two weeks.
They described him as someone in his late 40s, mentally unstable and has a habit of eating customers' leftover

hmm...was just wondering. if they shoot in the air... the bullet has to fall to the ground soon right? so...what happen to the bullet? do the policemen search for the bullet? or just let it fall and anyone who find it will keep it??

CID personal would look for it, as they need to bring back it for lab. To verify the shot was from the bullet or not. It is done at HSA. If cant find, I also dont know what they would going to do. As that time the poilice man fire two shots at a mad man, One hit the person, the other still MIA. But the police man, had to strip off their uniformed to verified with the lead compound that their firearms. If the PO fires at the gound, won't he be risking a ricochet?Which might potentially harm any civilians nearby

well, there are also guidelines when firing a taser too.. because when a person is shot with a taser. he is effectively in shock n lapses into spasms.. so there might be a slight threat of him stabbing himself..Originally posted by LazerLordz:faster implementation of the taser would be better...
