Those are Gurkhas.Originally posted by Gordonator:will pass by the Australian International School on my way to work very morning. there'll always be 2 sentries at the gate armed with MP5 standing guard everyday.
funny thing is, instead of wearing beret, they are wearing this ridiculous looking straw hat mostly worn by the younger students there. to top it off, they are wearing the hat tilt sideway.
it's really a funny sight. (no offence to anyone, really)

they "shoot to kill".....
thats what a police officer told me when i am trying to bring 2 cadets into Padang with me during NDP this year.... the police officer had to escort me to walk pass the Gurkhas... it was really tense...
because i am bringing 2 secondary school kids into a restricted area at a timing not so appropriate... hehe..Originally posted by vIn.Warrior:
why should you afraid if you didn't do anythinG wrong?
Don't see those Gurkhas with stern looks or whatever, they're actually very polite and humble towards the public.
ranks are still pin on on the sides of their arm. Beret means that they are off duty. Or perhaps u saw SOC officers.Originally posted by Hellraiza:hmmm, do the gurkhas have ranks among them? can't see any insignia on that gurkha's uniform in the picture..
eh and ive seen gurkhas guarding the american club, but wearing beret leh. what gives?
They do.. just that the one in the pic was probably a constable.Originally posted by Hellraiza:hmmm, do the gurkhas have ranks among them? can't see any insignia on that gurkha's uniform in the picture..

Chief Inspector.(Ghurkha rank.)Originally posted by cornyfish2000:They do.. just that the one in the pic was probably a constable.
In fact i vaguely rememeber seeing a pic somewhere of a strange rank that is not normally found in the police force... 3 diamonds on the epaulette, instead of the usual 2 diamonds (which is the INSP rank).
yes. beret means off duty.. when they wear their no.4 for jungle outfield, their ranks r on their left b.reast pocket..Originally posted by Pitot:ranks are still pin on on the sides of their arm. Beret means that they are off duty. Or perhaps u saw SOC officers.
