How do regulars look at Volunteer Special Constabulary ?

I am interested to know how do the regulars look at VSC ? Do they treat the VSCs like " extras " ? I am itching to join , but my friends had been feeding me with negative informations, therefore i would like to seek other opinions other than my own circle. To me , its a chance to " taste" my dream ( childhood dream to be exact) , not able to join cause of my qualifications... only O levels.. nowadys they prefer Dip holders , furthermore.. i am a Female.. hai ~ I am still gathering my guts to send out the application.

Most new regs look at VSCs as a nuisance.
Some old regs also felt the same way. Cos of mavericks and the possibilities that VSCs are spies to condamn them.
Sometimes VSCs are treated better because of the VSC's efforts that has helped out the regs. And because of the advantages the VSC brings.
ie. information of the private sectors jobs, a different approach to problems that the regs are used to/know of; the VSC that make the efford to integrate among the regs and ns boys alike.
Its more of a person, then the title.
And even VSCs do fight/sabotage among themselves, much like regs and the NS.
The only common grounds that anyone can look to is possibly where we value our vows.
To protect, to enforce, to balance and to make an effort to make our own Singapore the place where our future generations can walk safe.
On, and to better ourselves, mentally, emotionally and physically. -
Well, VSC arent a permanent contract.
The contract is by one's own will and mindset.
You can always join, take the training, perform a few years and resign. Its a taste of life which you can consider.
It is not uncommon to have younger VSCs serve for less then 3 years. -

Well.. i suppose if we do our own part well , don't really need to to care about what the others look at us right ? By the way , I see from another thread that they will post you to the places where you wan, does that includs the division ? Or do they post you to the nearest divison near your house ?

You can be posted to the land division that you want. Does not necessary be near your home.
As as and when you need a change, you can opt for transfer/posting to another divisions depending on the headcount at the other divisions.
ie. You choose and was then posted to tanglin police division upon your graduation.
2 years later, you figure you want to experience the works of Traffic Police. You can apply for transfer there.
And a year later, you want to try out Police Coast Guard Work. You can request for a transfer again. -
Female patrol officers are rare and is always in big demand. So you wont be that easily shunted to one side just because you are female.
However, you have to be prepared that there are still dozens of officers who cannot tolerate a female holding more experiences/knowledge.
There will forever be officers that try to push you into a admin support role just because you are female.
I however, do what I do now, not because I didnt want to patrol, but because I cannot stand how the admin work was shoddily done by non admin trained persons.
BTW, I am now a MPO.
Did 13 years service with the SPF, 9 in active patrols in various divisions, including 3 specialised divisions.
And I still do attachment duties on the ground so I never forget what it means to be a ground patrol officer. -

According to what you mentioned above , it seems like being a VSC is open to a lot of options rather than regulars yeh ? Somemore , not contract bound , could leave if cannot tahan...
Funny to say this , but i have a number of friends in spf.. i just wonder will they laugh at me for joining the vsc or not... like i trying to be a " wannabe" hahhahaha , i hope not ba~

The VSC Recruitment unit has this wonderful gal called W/SGT(V)Ng Ming who does everything as and when it reaches her hand.
She will process everything and make ready for upcoming interviews as and when it is necessary to have one when the applicants reached a certain amount. That happens almost every 2 month. -

Hehe.. the ppl working at vsc recruitment are quick... they called me already to ask me whether i would be available to go for classes on Mon - Thur from 630pm - 1030pm at CCK !! of course i must pass the necessary test 1st lah... which they wld be sending a letter to me for the interview... good luck to me.
I already began to calculate... i work in town , finish work at 530pm. to reach CCK at 630pm( somemore dunno which part of CCK... ) wld i be able to make it ? I really wonder.....UNLESSS... i get my own transport.. well.. so much for nothing.. get through the interview 1st baz!

Not necessary that you will really need a transport lah.
Maybe for the first few weeks of training you can be taking public transport.
But as said, you can rally among your own squardmates to maybe helpcar share from your work places to TRACOM CCK?
Well, to get a personal transport isnt cheap. Or like me, you can ride? -

So great !!! yah.... me also ride LAST TIME... i DIAO on my class 2 since like erm.... beg of 2004 until now.. lazy to go bk BBDC to take pratical.. cuz after i sold off my bike... i am a bummer who dun like to go too far ... I think u should retract your earlier posting by inferring regulars who belittled VSCs.
It voices down to the questions on "asset" vs "liability" without further eloboration.
Always, do conduct self-relfection b4 condemning others.

Now...can you at least be right till the very end and supply the correct designations of the officers that work in VSCHQ?
We have been too ignorant to have noticed that officers in VSCHQ was called anything else.
Do enlighten us as well and get it approved, publish in the force order so we can finally have the right title.

What is the organisation chart of TRACOM VSC and possibly the contact numbers of the right person to contact on any issues?
I would not mind if some nice officers can post out those informations and I can recipocate with those informations relating to VSCHQ so we all know who to look for, go to and harass to get some work done. -
Erm.. Actually... my personal opinion is that VK is actually helping me to understand a bit more of the life in VSC lo ... Designations or post or whatever is nothing to talk about actually . Even IF she does use the wrong designation title for her post now , so What ?!
