in any government organisation, be it uniform or civlian staff, you gotta respect the rank or position of your superiors whether you like it or not. like someone mentioned in this thread, "you salute the rank, not the man". if you don't like the SO, then just communicate when and where officially or when necessary. even if you don't like the SO, you still gotta pay compliments to him/her. some SO can be PGO when work is concern but when it comes to leisure, he/her is like a buddy. I have worked with SO who are PGO, but when we sit down over a beer, we are like buddies. There are SO whom i have worked with who are "see up no see down" kind. It all depends on how individuals handle it.Originally posted by viciouskitty74:I was with a small group of JOs recently for NDP.
And one young sergeant has this comment:
'I don't mix with SOs.'
The young sergeant was also in the midst of guiding the group away from the path of the SOs cos he does not want to walk face in with the SOs.
SOs are humans too, they also wouldnt mind having JOs to count as their friends. Especially a friendly face that can say hi to them as and when they are off duty.
Why are SOs so discriminated?
Is it the JOs are worried that if they are seen talking to a SO, they will be labeled as apple polisher by their peers?
There is no need to intentionally avoid SOs. You won't earn less by paying compliments to SOs. These SOs won't getter richer either. Rank is important in an uniform organisation where we can clearly differentiate who is the leader. Nevertheless, the leader can be weak in nature.Originally posted by Superman-Is-Dead:in any government organisation, be it uniform or civlian staff, you gotta respect the rank or position of your superiors whether you like it or not. like someone mentioned in this thread, "you salute the rank, not the man". if you don't like the SO, then just communicate when and where officially or when necessary. even if you don't like the SO, you still gotta pay compliments to him/her. some SO can be PGO when work is concern but when it comes to leisure, he/her is like a buddy. How many years does it take for someone signing on as a JO to be promoted to an SO?Originally posted by ngokyc:There is no need to intentionally avoid SOs. I have worked with SOs and they do respect your suggestions (at times) if they are of quality. I ended up a SO later. I am able to manage expectations better cos I have been thru the life of a PO.
Just be neutral and impartial. Do you work and be focused.
