Hi guys ...
Currently a Specialist in the army in 3rd Guards. Gonna finish ma NS this OCT05.
Has been my dream to become a PO thats why i wanna sign on to SPF rather than SAF where i already have a foundation.
I am a diploma holder so i guess can onli sign on as a Junior Officer. I dun care whther its Junior or senior as long as i get to do my job i am happy. SAf has a saying if ur gd u'r gd. I follow that.
But i do have a few question which i hope other SPF regulars can help me wif.
1) As a Junior Officer is there a prospect in SPF? i mean can i go far?
2) Can a JO become a SO ?
3) I heard tat SPF sponsors officers to study degree in Justice Studies. I am from a poor background so i dun have the means to go to UNI although i got the grades. Will a normal diploma holder be eligible?

Yes, if your CO is a good one but most likely is a No cos u will end up stuck in NPC for 3-5 yrs unless u know people who can rope u over. The longer u stuck in NPC = more likely to be posted out but also = more likely people dun want u cos u only trained in NPC duties and nothing much. Want to have prospect must quickly go officehours or get transferred to be IO...then u can jump and jump almost anywhere....
Rule of thumb :
1) 2 yrs in NPC then quickly request to go be IO or go officehours. 1 yr then quickly source for the next job....if u wait for MPO to do his/her job...u can wait until u get ur next rank also still there....
2) Do ur best but dun try too hard, else u will fall down hard...have seen many such cases...they are indeed good but step on too many fellow officers' foot, therefore ganna condemned and the rest is for u to find out.
2) Can a JO become a SO ?
Previously Yes. Now is NO...strictly NO...unless u got super ultra good supporter like a strong Commander or DY Commd or someone who in Cantoment. Max rank is SSI2 which will take u 15-18 yrs at least unless u high flyer then perhaps just 12 yrs can get there. Those who can do so and can afford to do so, resign after they get their SSgt...which is say....abt 5 yrs. From my circle of friends, Sgt->SSgt on the average is 4yrs but Cpl to Sgt is very fast cos there are things u can't do as a Cpl but Sgt can, wat i won't reveal.

AFAIK, they sponsor u go temasek poly study some 'elligible for use in SPF but worthless outside DIPLOMA'.
No, they do NOT support Diploma Holders to go Uni but they do support 'A' Level Holders.

is it ok to sign there sr8 or become police first then transfer there? -

if u can find a job outside then i see no reason why u wanna be a PO -

One of my Cuz is a JO in NPC jurong i think .... he told me Narcotics now looking for people to join em ...
i was thinking since narcotics side isnt as big as police would it be better .... but a few of ma frens said if u joined straight, they would let u play wif urine onli ..
so i dunt know whats the truth now .... -

If you really interested whatever you do will run smoothly not matter if you are a PO or SO.

With regards to ur question:
1) Yes, there is a prospect in SPF as a JO, but u must be prepared to work in investigation and get a degree to be promoted to SO. If not, you will lose out to the degree holders JOs.
3) U can try apply after working a few yrs, think they will take into account the number of years of service in the force. Many sssgt/ssgt are taking the degree/diploma in justice studies.
My advice to u: if u wanna be a PO, stick to being a PO. Narcotics' officers job is very different from PO. To maximise your prospect in SPF, i would advise u to get a degree while studying part-time and then work in investigation. Once u shine in investigation and armed with a degree, prospects in SPF is good. -

Been snooping arnd almost all are saying CNb is a bad choice or tough job. Only one guy told me that is lucky to even get inside CNB. -
Sometimes pure interest in the jobscope and childhood dreams are reason enough. Now i have 2 choices .... Join as JO and then hope for a chance to get sponsorhip
OR take a private degree from TMC or SIM and then try apply for SO next year ..
I want to think long term here so thats why i am looking at 2 roads here and dun know which one to take. -

shall not just grab any degree just to get a spot in SPF ...
still getting a degree but shall take one which suite my needs in my line in IT ... if i get SPf job will go .. if not atleast can find job outside
