But supposing you are the police officer and a 10 year old boy or 14 year old teen comes to you with a knife swinging it around agressively, would you shoot him? -

Someone (not a teen) swung TWO knives at me, but I didnt even draw anything...let alone shoot him. just remember to always think on the ground....there is no such thing as hard and fast rules training command talk about.

don't ever fire a bullet unless you feel totally threatened and can't do anything else.heck even drawing your revolver will give you tons of extra paperwork to do. baton should be more den enuff,but sadly to say the martial arts you guys picked up are crap and probaly won't help you in any sorta fight.

but its the same what as unarmed combat is adapted from some form of martial arts.you think the police officers up there came up with those moves by themselves?no what.

its always up to individual to assess the situation, you wont know it helps a not unless you tried it yourself and only experianece will tell.... -
well from what i can see is that most of your joint locks are adapted from jujitsu and some of the moves are from akido.even unarmed combat can be a form of martial art itself..haha..i heard from my cousin who trains with me in muay thai and brazilian jujitsu that what they are learning is crap as compared to the real art itself.

Seems alot of our officers have different methods in apprehending the situation.
Nowadays, PO were trained in T-Baton. It is a new defence (primary) and attacking (secondary) technique PO needs to be trained. It is effective if the officer is cool minded and be able to react fast to defend himself against attack.
There is something called - Appreciation of Situation (AOS) which is important for all POs on the ground. Never step into a situation where you are in disadvangtage. For example, u shall never dash into a gang crash w/o knowing what exactly u need/want to do. Get the appropriate backups and keep ops room informed so that they can arrange for resources. Safety comes first in this instance.
Karate, TKD and etc seems too late to react.. street fighting better. -

i do personally experiance in the past before that the way member of public approach me and to my muscular colleague is different.... well.... we have AOS for them.... the members of public/criminal do have they own set of "AOS" on us too....
