Ehh.....still gets complaints leh.Originally posted by Sagara:VSC much better than regular imho..
1) No need do folders.
2) Flexible time.
3) No need do boring duties like Maintenance/Counter Duty etc.
4) No need worry about complaints.
5) Can choose what you want to do. (to a certain extent eg. Anti-Crime/Ambush)
That only applies if you are passionate about the job. (or if you like to arrest pple )
Hmmm... how did the brother know the INSP and the WPO were VSCs?Originally posted by viciouskitty74:Example:
On New Year Eve.
One woman illegal hawker was at Orchard Rd selling lighted trinkets.
One NEA officer stops her and insist on summoning her even though she did not have her personal particulars on her. NEA officer request for PO help to bring her back to station to confirm her identity.
The woman's brother (Ex NS/Current Reservist) then step in and insist that the POs cannot bring the woman back to station, because she has already provided her particulars verbally.
POs has also no wish to bring the poor woman back and thus try to negotiate with the NEA officer. But the NEA officer insisted.
More POs then step in and try to negotiate the scenerio by asking the woman to ask her brother to go home, get her particulars and quickly solve the problem.
Woman becomes frantic and was talking and crying as well as attempts to beg the POs. She was also gesturing wildly.
WPO then stays closer to her and hold down her hands to her laps to tell her to calm down and try to solve the problem at hand first so she won't be added with the charge or making of nuisance of herself in public.
Her brother, was in the meantime conversing loudly to other PO and when saw a space, dash to the WPO side and grab her arms and drag her away from his sister.
WPO then warn the brother not to do that again or he would be charged with obstructing a PO.
Anyway, the woman was finally brought back to station as the public show of dispute was getting out of hand.
POs then continue their rounds, but was later informed that the brother lodge the complaints against the WPO and the VSC Inspector for being rude and arresting the woman.
How is it that the regular officers were not complaint about but the VSC are?
VSC Inspector didnt do anything except to tell the Brother to cool down and dont aggrevate the matter.
Because the brother is a Ex-NS from Tanglin Police Station. A police station is a small community. Everyone will know everyone.Originally posted by cornyfish2000:Hmmm... how did the brother know the INSP and the WPO were VSCs?
It is all about AOS (Appreciation of Situation). Actually such cases can be managed in a more professional manner. We too look at the confidence level of the POs. In such scenarios, POs can do screening of the woman's identity with the details provided. Record down the details and move on.Originally posted by cornyfish2000:Hmmm... how did the brother know the INSP and the WPO were VSCs?
Hmmm.....I sense this personally on the grounds, and I do wonder. Do regulars extend this sort of sentiment towards their SC counterparts?Originally posted by Eating Snake:To add on to the previous post, another reason POs are not so enthu about promoting VSC could be because ultimately it's more acceptable for a regular officer to get injured in the line of duty. Not so acceptable in the eyes of the public for a volunteer to get injured. So some POs might feel that they have to protect the VSCs they patrol with and might deem it an extra liability.
Originally posted by viciouskitty74:Well, looking back, the POs 1st on the scene are all pretty young.
And instead of bringing the threesome (NEA, Woman & Brother) to a more seculded place to conduct arguements. The POs didnt manage to control the scenerio with enough experiences.
And further down, the younger POs was not as aware of what they could or should have done to the threesome.
I would understand why the PO are finding it hard to turn down the NEA officer's request, as the NEA were empowered in that period by the SPF.
On ground patrol POs were instructed to assist the NEA as much as possible.
And being young and inexperienced as they are, with their miind still on 'why they are not partying like the rest of the crowds'.
It was a horrifying experience.
BTW, please please do not have the committee or clueless TRACOM VSC instructors and in charges push you guys into doing skits, performance or whatever interesting stuffs you guys figure might be interesting at the graduating ceremony.Originally posted by Luke1976:Hi viciouskitty,
Wish I had your valuable advice before I joined. Haha...
I am currently with the 61st intake. Now that the next batch is coming in, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. 2 more months to POP!
I was there at the swearing in. The short fat long haired and biatchy female talking loudly here and there with a snobbish rude attitude.Originally posted by Luke1976:Haha, they are still around. And they both happened to be in my squad
In case you are interested, we had 80+ ppl on the first day of swearing in. By the following lesson, about 10 left. Right now, there are about 56 ppl.
We have finished our drill and PDT. We just started our range, and will be having our PPPO test next month. The 2-nights-a-week schedule is getting a little tiring, and I am looking forward to that final day
Pleassssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeee........NOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo.Originally posted by Luke1976:Thanks for the tips!
I just happened to volunteer myself as a committee member. Haha
What do you mean by "skits, performance and whatever interesting stuffs"? You mean we have to present a show?! I can't imagine embarassing ourselves in front of our future commanders....
