Now. Applicants need to clear the SPF psychometric test.
Ex-NS are not spared.
If they have ever did a psychometric test to join the regulars and failed. They cannot be accepted into the VSC also.
And if VSC applicants failed the psychometric test. They cannot join the Regulars SPF vice versa. -
True enough. Both my friends failed to get into VSC cos one failed the psychometric test during his interview with the SPF and the other simply failed during the VSC session. Kind of discouraging especially when VSC is running short of manpower to supplement the regulars and they have implemented all these new recruitment policies. Most of my friends turned away from VSC now saying it is a waste of time going thru the hassle of interviews and tests.

I think nowadays psychometric tests are becoming more common as a tool in recruitment. The tools are meant to be an "objective" way of evaluating candidates.
I have done 2 psychometric tests when I applied for govt related jobs.
Psychometric tests are supposed to be used as guides and not a "fool-proof" way of categorising candidates.
In a more positive light, I guess SPF would rather weed out candidates who don't meet SPF's criteria rather than regret it later.

But how is the psychometric test evaluated to really fitting the profile of being able to identify who and what are the real PO materials?
I myself have the opportunity to try out some psychometric testings.
Some questions are posted in such a manner that it is leading.....
What is it to say that such tests are that accurate? -

vsc sounds like the best volunteer job i could try. I had sent in my application to SPF sometime ago and was rejected... It was due to my qualifications i guess.. i only have O levels...Always had been my dream to be able to work the force. The Vsc gave me hope for me to " taste " a bit of my dream. I was scared to try though. I have friends who joined the vsc before and they relate their experiances to me. Examples like being ignored because you are just a volunteer , like your "status" in the place is very lowered . Do not really know how to explain to you guys.. but does anyone get what i am trying to say ? Does that really happens or is it just rumors ?
If there are no recruitment exercise now , and i send in my application online , would that be considered ? -
How does the attachment to a patrol unit work? BTW. That psychometric assessment is not a OSA procedure.
It will infringe the OSA only if I reveal the question nature or a question.
This is Basic Human Resource procedures as well as ethics. -
To my best knowledge, it is no secret about the psychometic tests conducted by the SPF or even the Army. As long you are not releasing the content and context of the test, I believe it is fine. Sometimes, its not that you are 'ignored'. Its because the regulars are 'shy' cos they do not know who you are. For them to delibrately ignore you, then its definitely something wrong with you for them to do so. You will need to develop understandings to the regs and PNS as you goes along. Empathy goes a long way to build relationships. Do explore that option.
I've known and sit down, chit chat and drink kopi with otherwise labeled "Regular officers who are VSC haters'.
And please lah......your status are never lowered. Cos in a perverse sense, you are also a member of public who 'pays their salary

You are assigned to a VSC team that is rightfully suppose to follow the schedule of the corresponding regular team. Be it for a full shift or 1/2 a shift.
But as Volunteers has their own work schdule and commitment. It is not possible to totally follow your assigned team schedule thus your 2nd description will apply.
There is not to say that VSC did not delibrately allow it to be so.
Lets say, you are a Friday team member, thus in Team 5. You got quite a lot of buddies (regulars/ns) which is Regular Team 2 working on Sat night.
You want to join them. You can. Just have to inform the liasion officer/MPO that you are coming to be reporting for VSC duty with Regular Team 2 for night shift on that Sat night. Try to minimise incoveniences by informing your LO/MPO earlier cos they need to make arrangement for your logistics. -

They grumbled about other VSCs. Especially those that just goes to Volunteer Duties to 'wayang' instead of really helping out.
Especially those that make the regulars work even more. (By giving problems, by wasting their time asking silly questions or doing silly things to inconvenice the regulars.)
The Regs are humans too, they also have their dislikes, obsessions and hobbies. They have similar worries same as us. From finding a g/f or wife to how their children fare in school. -
Any idea can airborne badge or other badges be worned on SPF uniform? Can VSC officer wears those badges?
Can a DR. be engraved on the name tag for VSC officers? Any chance for a DR. to be enlisted as a Senior Officer in VSC?

For the Title Doctor. Yes. It is your right if you are a Certified Dentist, Doctor or holding a PHD.
Same with Marine or Aviation titles.
Within the VSC, we have doctors, dentist and even Container Ship Captains.
Examples: Dr Jimmy Yap (Dentist); Capt Vincent Wee (Sea Captain) & some others.
However, army rank titles is not transferable to VSC service unless there is special provisions allowed by PHQ.
And no. They may be Dr or Captains, but they still have to start off with the rank of Corporal in VSC.
and errmmm......we also have the honourary vsc scheme where the officers are enlisted as SO. Depending on your field of expertise.
Examples: School Teachers, where their powers are restricted to their school grounds. Some lecturers at TRACOM are Hon VSC because of the cheap $2.80/- instead of paying them their professional fees.

Can you wear your badges acquired from SAF on your SPF uniforms?
For VSC officers who are still Active Reservist with the SAF with such badges. Can they carry over their badges for wearing on the SPF uniforms?
And in some cases, can an active SAF Regular wear their badges and years of service on the VSC SPF uniforms. -
I also forgot to add.
Ex-Regulars/PNS are allowed to join the VSC and start serving the VSC with their last active rank.
Eg, you are a Regular Staff Sergeant. You resigned from the Regular service and join the VSC.
The MPO processing your application will then also apply for you to start your VSC service with your last rank. So you can become SSGT(V) instead.
Or
You are a National Service Police Inspector now. When you joint the VSC, you can join the VSC and start off as Inspector(V). -
I have seen ex-commandos turned PO (a JO and a SO) wearing airborne badges during my days at Police Academy. The CDI back then (Koh Beng Geok I think) wanted them to wear their badges and march in the GOH during National Day. They're entitled to only wear the SAF Parachute Wing badge if they have successfully completed a Parachute Course at the SAF Parachute School.
