I don't think anyone of us can truly say the purpose and usefulness of the test.Originally posted by SpecOps87:Just took my computer on Monday, I will have to state this...the system of testing if you ask me...is unrealistic and presumptuous, as people are more educated these days, ITE,Poly, JC people...it can't be that bad that you require to go through all these mental IQ tests etc. Frankly...lets be frank...if we didn't have the IQ, i guess "N" and "O" levels would have wiped out quite a chunk already. What is more important is for things such as reaction, memory, logical thinking etc. I feel that the sections on memory, reaction, logical thinking, instruction following, arithmetic are key, the rest are actually not that relevant in this day and age. Can somebody care to explain to me...what is the significance of noticing the difference in pattern of numbers and havin a list of words that make no sense and instructions that are abstract? How does that fit into SAF being a 3G Army? when things in 3G are much more about situational awareness, information management and also ability to think on one's feet. These are somethings that cannot be ascertained by a computer test no matter how super the computer is.
Its something called the "X" factor of a soldier, I can have an educated chap and a Hokkien Peng, just because the chap is educated, doesn't make him an effective leader, similar for the Hokkien Peng, that doesn't mean his opinions are baseless.
happened to bravo two zeroOriginally posted by SpecOps87:Well,if you ask me...I feel that a more suitable type of questions, is actually something like those that have no right or wrong. Using it for profiling...like those morale questions ie. You and your team are on patrol behind enemy lines, your OP has been discovered by a little girl, do you (a) kill the girl (b) shift to a secondary OP (c) request extraction.
this kinda question should be asked during PC interview for BMT arh...pre enlistees....think its pointlessOriginally posted by SpecOps87:Well,if you ask me...I feel that a more suitable type of questions, is actually something like those that have no right or wrong. I don't think it will be of any use as there will be people who will just choose all the 'correct' answers and some who on purpose choose all the wrong answers just for fun making it not a test at all.Originally posted by SpecOps87:Well,if you ask me...I feel that a more suitable type of questions, is actually something like those that have no right or wrong. You see..there's no such thing as a right or wrong answer to the example i gave. say another question, You have linked up with an informant willing to provide you with key information on sites of WMD aimed at destroying Singapore, but he will only release them the condition you perform a homosexual act with him, will you (a) Perform the act, (b) Threaten him with death, (3) torture him, (4) call off the meet?Originally posted by dkcx:I don't think it will be of any use as there will be people who will just choose all the 'correct' answers and some who on purpose choose all the wrong answers just for fun making it not a test at all.
There will still be people who will on purpose give stupid answers to such questions or some who don't even read and just random click any answer since its mentally exhuasting to be doing all those questions and most of the time many people are lazy to think or waste time on it.Originally posted by SpecOps87:You see..there's no such thing as a right or wrong answer to the example i gave. say another question, You have linked up with an informant willing to provide you with key information on sites of WMD aimed at destroying Singapore, but he will only release them the condition you perform a homosexual act with him, will you (a) Perform the act, (b) Threaten him with death, (3) torture him, (4) call off the meet?
Now that you mention it,I kinda agree, cuz we are a conscript force, largely people will be bohiew, bochup, bo kan lan towards such stuff. tsktskOriginally posted by dkcx:There will still be people who will on purpose give stupid answers to such questions or some who don't even read and just random click any answer since its mentally exhuasting to be doing all those questions and most of the time many people are lazy to think or waste time on it.

Commissioned Officers will be presented with a personal sword with the name etched onto the blade.Originally posted by kenn3th:will all those who pass out of ocs be presented with a sword? or only for the parade itself?

me 53/03 ALPHA..... but got posted to armour..
i haven't even enter NS. currently waiting for enlistment letter. i hope to be able to qualify for OCS cuz thats wad i really wanna acheive, the pride of leading and helping others. and besides if i can't be an officer, i can't be a pilot. haha!
hahaz..same here del! anyway is OCS training more xiong than commando training? i heard of the Commando OCS which is the hardest to get in, but do they train in hendon or safti? and does their training differs from the other army formations like guards, infantry or armour?
Commando officers take 2 routes: commando first, OR OCS first. In general, the former route is SUPER difficult and produces super super tough commando officers. the 2nd way is to take Commando Conversion Course. 5 months after you commission.
OCS training is very very likely to be less xiong than commando training.

agreed. but the OCS-first route is for ppl who were initially selected to OCS for other army duties...and then they choose to sign on as CDO officers. if not, usually CDO get their officers from their own pool of CDOs who qualify for spec training, and from there they choose the best handful of them to go OCS. their ocs is conducted at safti. if i rmb correctly from wad i read in mindef, they train with infantry in ocs. if u can tahan cdo training, ocs training is peanuts. =)
i had an arti officer fren who commented tt in his batch, the cdo officers were in a world of their own. they run damn fast, do everything damn well...so ya lor.
it matters on whether you are really that committed to work towards your goal....
wah! i suck in running la. i heard tt SAF training is all abt running leh. i mean running is impt but SAF emphasize too much on it. commando OCS is only for those veri siao on people la.

golden words.
If you're PBI (Poor Bloody Infantry) like the lots of us, you'll need your legs to bring you everywhere.
Running is a very basic level of fitness. If you are unable to keep up physically, how are you supposed to take command and lead?
