Badge of Infantry Pride
3/17/2005
The inauguration of the Combat Skills Badge (CSB) Qualification Package took place on 21 and 22 February. Chief of Army (COA), MG Desmond Kuek, together with 70 participants from senior commanders to young specialists completed the grueling course and earned the badge in a simple ceremony at the School of Infantry Specialists.
The CSB qualification package covers the entire scope of Infantry combat skills. It requires proficiency in handling and shooting Infantry weapons, the usage of Infantry equipment and survival and navigational skills like water crossings and first aid. The greatest challenge to the participants is the 32-kilometre ?March of Infantry Pride? to prove their combat fitness and mettle.
Commander of the 9th Singapore Division and Chief Infantry Officer, COL Winston Toh said, ?The reason why we decided to have the CSB is to raise the combat skills of the infantry vocationalists and any other vocationalists who require combat skills. It is physically and mentally very demanding, but very satisfying when you have finished it.?
Regimental Sergeant Major of the 3rd Singapore Division, SWO Chan Keng Kiew added, ?Obtaining the CSB means a lot to me. I was told I am one of the oldest guys to complete the course. Any soldier that completes the test and obtains the CSB will be able to take on any mission that Our Army requires of him. With people going for this test, the proficiency level of soldiering skills in Our Army will surely improve.?
Obtaining the CSB is definitely no easy feat. Are you ready to push yourself and go for it?
hope it helps...
I happened to come across a certain email from a certain KAH..stating that Infantry vocationalists did not feel any pride in their vocation, and maybe instituting the CSB would help raise morale of the troops...Originally posted by Gordonator:it's just a SAR21 with laurel, not much originality i say.
i got a better way to boast their pride, give them more walfare like more offs or more allowance.Originally posted by Hellraiza:I happened to come across a certain email from a certain KAH..stating that Infantry vocationalists did not feel any pride in their vocation, and maybe instituting the CSB would help raise morale of the troops...
getting the CSB through OCS is certainly much easier than getting it through the course as an open candidate, cos, correct me if im wrong, cadets get to do the CSB over the entire pro term.Originally posted by Eikei:I was from the batch with JCC and CSB.
CSB requires all your Inf Weapons from LAW/Matador up to GPMG level. Also requires other inf technical knowledge like CLS, claymore, CWO etc. The physical fitness criteria = 10km under 60min and Silver IPPT. Can't really remember what other fixed criteria but its really about the same criteria as the old Inf OCC plus a few other items.
My unit was one of the first to offer the badge to the men but it seems like ICSB standards are vastly different across the Army as somehow HQInf seems to accept different criteria for different command levels although there is a fixed booklet produced to document how it should be carried out.
Which is tougher, JCC or CSB?Originally posted by wuming78:getting the CSB through OCS is certainly much easier than getting it through the course as an open candidate, cos, correct me if im wrong, cadets get to do the CSB over the entire pro term.
JCC without a doubt.Originally posted by will4:Which is tougher, JCC or CSB?
Contrary to what you believe, getting CSB as an open candidate is more difficult than getting it through OCS. OCS plays it by the book, open courses are dubious as they accept different proofs of technical proficiency and being conducted locally is prone to influences.Originally posted by wuming78:getting the CSB through OCS is certainly much easier than getting it through the course as an open candidate, cos, correct me if im wrong, cadets get to do the CSB over the entire pro term.
educational qualifications definitely play a part. If u got Dip/A-levels, higher chance of going into OCS. But other than that, u still can get in, provided u are damn garang, and ur PC recommends u strongly. It sure helps if u get Coy best too.Originally posted by OO_OO_OO:Is it true that they already more or less decide whether you go OCS based on that computer test u take during health checkup?
or must u still suck up to the pc?
actually u are right. CSB is also known as the infantryman's badge.Originally posted by kitson_83:Correct me if i am wrong, i kind of feel that the CSB is like make up to the INF cadet as they no longer get JCC.. If you think back it seem like this last time
Inf cadet = JCC, marksman, IPPT gold/silver
Guard cadet= Guard tag, air borne, JCC, marksman, IPPT gold/silver
Commando cadet= red beret, air borne, JCC, marksman, IPPT gold/silver
Now that no more JCC, they feel that they muz had something for the Infantry cadet, they give them CSB. btw i was from Inf and was one of the last batches who went for JCC.
u from 55/04 right?Originally posted by Eikei:I was from the batch with JCC and CSB.
