How you know? Actually, no I not very enthu in elite unit. Just find it appropreate. I am alsovery keen to join Air force as AEO ( Air Engineering Officer ). I heard that if you are the only son in the family, the army will not choose you into the elite unit? -
Friend, choosing the army as a life-long career is not that simple. Once i was also like you, damn enthu, die die wanna sign as Guards spec. But then the lady officer who interviewed me (quite chio i might add, captain, with airborne) said "why don't you try the 5 year contract first, see if it suits you.." She made a point, so i chose that instead. Now i'm goddamn glad i didn't sign up for PP. But that's my own experience lah.
I think u must really think hard about WHY u wanna be an officer. To be a sterling example of soldiering, to inspire your charges to greater heights? Or just to show off your epaulettes to your friends who will probably be serving at or around the same time as you? Or just to get all the chicks? It's definitely not easy.. when you spend the whole day/night doing your MAPEX or Platoon Ops Order...don't say i didn't warn you...heh heh
Then again, you can always choose the 5 year contract, got chance to go for many courses also, like JCC, Sniper, Ranger, can even get the chance to be an ASEAN competitive shooter! -

jungle confidence course. in brunei...comprises of 3 phases i think...hermit, chill bone and something else i forgot...navigation, how to acquire food in the jungle, all that stuff...

try 24 hours in bmt on your day 1 enlistment. maybe that will change your mind on how saf works. 5 years i think still very long.

I was thinking of Officer position because the Pay in Specialist is very bad, and they give you do all the shit! I will go for the Scholarship, If not, then I try the 5 year bond. I have a relative who used to be a specialist, then the superior see him good performance, send him to OCS. SO he raise through the rank and his last post before retirement is COL, his in the RSAF BTW.

I think they eat the meat and keep the skin for souvenier! Maybe wsell the skin to locals?

Well, it applies for NSF I think. Never heard NS people go do it, maybe except some special units.
Hey, your brother wear the army boots is it the SAf combat bots? or SAF No.3 boots? -
I hink it applied to army but not the other services. It stopped already but for what reason not really sure. Yeah, I heard JCC course was withdrawn for OCS cadets. So no more JCC for the army cadets or JST for the Air force guys.
Went for JST, 5 days in the jungle enough for me liao. Dunno how the army can tahan 21 days man.

we are 'thrown' into the jungle into group of 3 and are instructed to built shelters, set traps (for iguanas, birds, etc), find water source/food individually. each to maintain abt 20m apart, eye contact for safety reason (possible animal attack).
instructors would spot check now and then to see our achievements. if we were good, they would give us those animials we slaughtered and skinned during the practical lesson. if no good, receive only vegetables and fruits.
after 3 days 2 nights, we set off for topo exercise in group of 6, looking for various checkpoints in the jungle.
after the last checkpoint, this mark the end of JST.
JCC...not to sure.

Both JST and JCC have the 4 days survival phase where they put you in the middle of the jungle (actually not really, it's very close to the river and road.Originally posted by acwire_2125:Can discribe more of the JST for the RSAF? For JCC it's a few days IIRC with a climb up Mt Biang and river crossings. JST just walk for 1 day in the jungle can liao. -
Aiyah, kill animals not so bad lah. In Brunei they shoed us how to kill a rabbit and quail, but they only allowed us to "try out" on quail. Just remember to do a clean jerk and pull if you dun want it to suffer. jcc is a course for the entire saf, not only officers or cadets.
jcc entitles you to the jcc badge; jst does not
jcc consists of an uncontrolled navex (about 3 days 2 nights) as veto factor before transiting into the survival phase (building shelter and traps) of 4 to 5 days (cant remember) followed by another navex of 4 to 5 days (with time limit) which includes climbing mt biang and swimming batu apoi. -
