so there is an extra of 10 weeks in Sispec larx.. to be an officer need another 10 weeks of training ah now.
a fren from the previous bslc batch said the 'crossover panel' is held ard the 6th week -
Wow,great thread.I see most of the information are for Army.Anyone knows about Navy OCS?Like how to qualify,what you will be doing etc.......

'Navy OCS' is in the form of the Midshipman Wing. Like the Air Force, the surest way to get in is to sign on as a navy officer. There is the rare Mids NSF here and there, and i think there is an interview for the NSF OCTs they have shortlisted, which will take place during the tri-service term (i'm not too sure abt this). Anyway, the Mids guys will be posted out to join the Mids Wing (which is still in OCS) after the tri-service term with the Army and Air Force cadets. Ok, this is all i know abt the Mids.. wonder if there are any navy officers/MIDS here to clarify things abit.

pls correct me if i'm wrong. sometimes i find it strange why they call the place SAFTI MI? since SAFTI MI stands for Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute Military Institute right? why the double Institude? unless the TI stands for different thing or else it really sounds weird.
i remember when SAFTI was first opened, it was simply call SAFTI. -
i was told during my SAFTI tour that SAFTI is no longer an abbreviation and doesnt stand for anything. A Brief History
SAFTI Military Institute derives its name from the former Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute whose acronym -SAFTI -became a household word amongst Singaporeans in the years following its establishment on 14 February 1966 at Pasir Laba Camp.
The retention of the term 'SAFTI' -no longer as an acronym but as a name in itself -for the Military Institute, reflects our close links with the old SAFTI. Our traditions of excellence, discipline and tough training started there, and they remain today, as part of our heritage. -

hey, i was wondering, during your duration of your work will you get opportunities to further your studies? going for postgraduate studies or something ( like getting a masters/mba )
for example, if one gets a scholarship and has to fulfil a 6 year bond as an officer after graduation, will he get chances to further studies during that 6 years? or can he take a break of say 1-2 years in between that 6 years for postgraduate study then finish it up afterwards? -

but of course, to get a sponsored postgrad study award, one must perform very well. -
So after this OCS reshuffle in selection.
I always wanted to be a combat officer ever since a kid(last time want to be Sergeant Major cos like v zai haha) I know it is very xiong. But i know i can do it if i wanted to. How do i get there now? besides being fit and be aware of the situation. still make it known to PC that i have interest in OCS? Don't worry fellas no wayanging from me. I have learnt alot on what not to do when in BMT. Thanks guys! and kudos to those in OCS!
Guess for me its about being able to prove to myself that i can lead men and earn their respect. I believe that is the most satisfying feeling and best part of the job.
Gonna start training myself up to get into PES A although my enlistment still 1 year away. (roughly i guess) Hoping to make the Army my career as an officer and don the uniform with the name of my country on it. That would be an honour. Thanks again for the info i got from this thread! -
today 25th August 2005 celebrates SAFTI MI's 10th anniversary.
10 years ago in 1995, Prime Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong officially opened the SAFTI Military Institute at Upper Jurong Road. the institute costed $280 million to build. -

It's a medical fitness thing, not a physical fitness thing..nothing you can do about it..just be more careful when playing sports..dun end up breaking a bone or limb..
Only after u sure u Pes A/B then u go bother about your physical fitness -

Yes...silly SAF logic...same logic as when they decided to call reservist NS men. active national service becomes NSF
reservist becomes NS men (short for operationally ready national service men)
ROD (run out date) becomes ORD (operationally ready date)
SAF Reservist Association (SAFRA) becomes SAFRA club -

looks like BG Tan Huck Gim, Commandant SAFTI is going to retire soon. saw him the other day in my camp going to dental, must be for dental FFI. even stop and asked me how to get there.

Hmm... better not tell that to the MO or highly likely u will get pes B or C... -
Some downgrade after commissioning..and end up as a PES C officer.
