Basic Warfighter - Platoon Sergeant Course |
The BWF-PS course is designed to in-built war fighting skills and leadership qualities in the trainees, as they embark on their courses on small arms coaching, physical training, equipment training and leadership modules. SWAS employs a self-directed learning that is more experiential and collaborative. This means trainees are directly involved in the planning and execution of their training program. These leadership appointments will serve to inculcate stronger leadership and team-building capabilities amongst the trainees. A Confidence Course has also been in-built into the common phase of the curriculum to foster greater confidence and warfighting skills. Objectives of BWF-PS Course To develop Specialists to be competent Platoon Sergeants who are able to lead and instruct their men and handle platoon administration. Pen Picture of BWF-PS Course The graduate is competent, fit, committed, adaptive and exhibits strong SAF core values as a Platoon Sergeant. He is a Warfighter-Trainer-Leader, who is adept in force preparation; regimentation and discipline; and system enforcement with the ability to understand contexts for problem solving up to Platoon level. Partnering his Platoon Commander, he is able to overcome challenges and in doing so, he builds resilience and engenders Basic Warfighter-Platoon Sergeant Course (BWF-PS) Duration: The course design BWF – PS Course is the same as the current system which consist of 2 phases, namely Common phase and Ops phase. The course duration has increased from a 5 weeks to 13 weeks.
BWF-PS Course Six lines of Ops 1. Warfighting Skills He is a competent Platoon Sergeant who is able to conduct 3rd Generation Platoon level operations within the company level in a combined arms setting. He possesses tactical instinct and is competent up to Platoon level TTPs. He is proficient in basic soldiering skills and adept at Platoon level force preparation. 2. Fitness He is physically fit to carry out his roles and responsibilities as a Platoon Sergeant. 3. Leadership and Values He is a Leader who is equipped with the SAF LCM Competencies. He is a competent Warfighter-Trainer-Leader, Role model and System Enforcer who exhibits strong SAF Core Values. 4. Confidence and Resilience A confident and resilient Warfighter-Trainer-Leader who believes in his abilities as a Platoon Sergeant. He is able to build resilience and inspire commitment in his Platoon by regulating himself through positive influence. 5. Commitment and Engagement He is a committed Warfighter-Trainer-Leader who feels a sense of belonging and pride. He strives to do his best in his roles and responsibilities as a Platoon Sergeant, who engenders a sense of meaning and commitment. He is positive and will defend both the nation and the institution. 6. Learning and Understanding Context He is an adaptive Warfighter-Trainer-Leader who is able to direct, sense make and solve problems at the platoon level. He possess the awareness that is necessary to guide his Platoon. He understands context through his abilities to visualise the battlefield situation. |

Objectives of WF-CSM Course To develop WOSpec to be competent Company Sergeant Majors who are able to lead and instruct their men and handle Company Administration.
